HI all.
I had a PIP assessment at the end of August and they’ve taken a lot from me. I’ve only been awarded standard for daily living and nothing for mobility. I was previously on enhanced daily living and standard mobility. I’ve been awarded this for 3 years but a disability charity that handles my case is appealing the decision (assessment was recorded)
I’m also on ESA in the support group. I had an assessment last year and put back in support group but the letter didn’t specify how long.
Today I received the following text message from DWP:
We need to talk to you about your ESA claim. Please call us straight away on 08001690310.
I really don’t want to speak to these people and I don’t think I can go through the whole assessment etc phase. I’m even in two minds about appealing my PIP, I’m too tired to keep fighting them!!
Anyone have any kind of clue what they want me to phone them for?
Thanks

Could be anything. Call them.0

I called them and it’s about getting a disability premium that I could be entitled to. Went through a few questions and she said I’ll hear if I qualify within 2 weeks.
I did ask would it be backdated and she said it could be.
Apparently it’s if you’re on standard PIP rate.
As I’ve said after the new assessment I get standard daily living and no mobility.
Before I was on enhanced daily living and standard mobility. So my question now is would it be backdated as I was on standard mobility. Or is it only standard daily living that makes you qualify. It would be great to be backdated.0 -
Something doesn't make sense here. You won't be entitled to a higher premium for standard daily living than you were for enhanced. The only reason there will be anything to backdate is if they had not been paying the premium you were entitled to previously.0

It sounds like it's the SDP. Standard daily living PIP qualifies you for it.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

I think the OP is probably one of the ones who lost the SDP.
We're you on incapacity benefit before ESA, OP?Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
So you need to tell us your circumstances and what you have been paid as regards your ESA claim.
Disability premiums are awarded with your ESA money.
There are two disability premiums for ESA. For both you have to be on income based ESA or contribution based ESA and entitled to an income based 'top up'.
So what are your circumstances?
Check your ESA award letter and tell us how the amount has been worked out.
Plus, are you single? Partner who works? Savings/capital? Pensions?0 -
If OP lives alone this could well be about Severe Disability premium (SDP) as others have said - worth £64.30/week.
It is possible that ESA have been advised of revised PIP award and that has prompted the message but that they never picked up on the original award. If you live alone and have income based ESA you will have been entitled to the SDP since the Daily Living component of PIP was originally awarded and the SDP will be backdated to that date.
I have the impression that ESA have become more proactive when PIP awards are made rather than relying on claimants to inform them.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Thanks all.
It is SDP.
I’ve been on ESA since 2010 at first in the Work related group then in 2012/2013 (I think) I’ve been in support group (income related)
2013 I applied for PIP and received enhanced daily living, standard mobility. I got this from 2013-2018.
I had a new assessment August 2018 and they’ve given me standard daily living and nothing for mobility. We are appealing this.
It was today I received the text saying to call them about my ESA and she mentioned disability premiums as I claim PIP. I did tell her I was appealing the PIP decision and she said that didn’t matter and I may get an extra £64 a week. I asked would it just be for this current claim or backdated and she said it could be backdated if I was successful in getting the premium.0 -
Also I don’t live alone but with my parents. They don’t claim Carers Allowance for me but my mum gets standard pip rate.0

ESA just contacting you therefore to find out if they should be paying you more money. However if you live with your parents you are not eligible for the SDP. Your mum will be ignored because she gets PIP but if your dad is not getting a disability benefit he will be taken into account.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated.
