Old Style Daily Tuesday 25th September 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

  • Morning everyone

I’m not sure what I am going to do today. I may get the train to a local town and get the final few things I need before I go into hospital. It’s not what I need to take in with me, more the making sure I have everything I will need when I am home that I can’t get on the internet.

I have given in and switched the heating on. I got to the point yesterday, that I had a thermal vest, a jumper and a cardigan and still couldn’t get warm under a duvet on the sofa, so decided that it just had to go on.

I'm going to make a chicken tikka masala and anna bread for dinner for a change with naan bread. I fancy something different for a change and am in the mood for cooking.

TA my thoughts are with you and your family.

Sounds like you had a good holiday Specky, and managed to recharge your batteries.

Whiteguinepig and nannywindow thanks for the suggestion of M&S for the sports bra. I’ve got an appointment for a fitting today.

Csarina it’s good to hear that your OH was happy with the new CA yesterday.

Camelot – glad that you enjoyed your weekend away.

Sorry Lee is struggling dumpling. I hope that you can get some support from his care coordinator.

Mrs Salad Dodger – I hope that your husband doesn’t have to wait too long for his eye op.

Redruby – I’m pleased that AO have finally decided to replace the freezer, a shame it took them so long.

Nelski I hope that you have a good group of delegates today.

I hope that you all have decent day whatever you are up to.
  • Morning all, just checking in as I don't have much of interest to relate and shan't do until I get rid of this streaming cold. Until then, I don't plan to go out as I don't feel up to it and would simply share my germs with others.

We are forecast a bright, sunny day so I'll get the bedlinen into the washing machine in a bit.

Thinking particularly of the TAs, but also of those of us who are worried or unwell. (Not counting myself, this is just a nasty cold, not real illness)

I am going to potter about on the net and then might watch some catch up tv.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning :)

Usual poor sleep the night before a new group. I have no idea what happened to me in the night but I have woken up with a black eye  All the inside of my eye by my nose is bruised Absolutely not a clue how but it really looks like someone has given me a good thump. Very confused. Is it possible to just have a black eye appear? Even tried to scrub it with a face tissue thinking it might just be a mucky mark :D Anyway maybe I can use it today to negotiate some sympathy today.

So will be leaving at daft o'clock to get to Sheffield. meeting the customer for breakfast which I could do without I could do with extra prep time to be honest.

Be glad to be back home tonight and get back to bed although clearly I need to establish my mystery assailant. So have a good day everyone if you can and hugs to the TAs
  • Morning All

The good weather continues for now but rain due later. All the washing from the weekend was washed, dried and put away yesterday including the summer quilt from DDs bed - I took it to the caravan and wish I had taken a winter one it was so cold at night. Anyway, that bed now has a cosy winter duvet on.

Also cut the hedge, hopefully that's it for the winter. The pots are still colourful so they can stay a little longer.

    Hugs to the TAs.
Glad you had a good holiday Speky, good luck for the interview.
Hope you feel better soon AOD.
Glad you have a new fridge RR, shame you had to go through all that to get one though.

I'm off to catch a train to work, my car is still at the garage, should be fixed today. Thank goodness it is still under warranty (just) as it needs 2 new brake discs.

    Take care. XX
  • Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off Holly

Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.

TA my thoughts are with you

Lunch out yesterday was good, hadn't eaten out since having food poisoning in June. It was warm and sunny so we had a little walk.

Today I need to mow the lawn and cut back some plants. The lemon tree will be moved into the conservatory for the winter.
    Nothing very exciting.

Hope you all have a good day

Hope you all have a good day
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.
  • Good morning, it seems a nice enough morning here, and fine. Only 6 degrees though it'll warm up during the course of the day.

Thank you Holly for starting off. Hope you have a good day.

AOD, sorry to hear about your cold, sounds nasty. Mind now you're retired you can relax and do what you want - nod off, watch tv etc, instead of dragging yourself out feeling terrible. That's one thing I don't miss - leaving the house at 6.30am, ok in the summer, but omg the winter mornings!!

Nelski, sorry, but your waking up with a black eye made me laugh (nice to get sympathy isn't it)
You must have hit yourself, unless there's a violent ghost in your house. The trouble is, if you have a black eye, for whatever reason, and I speak from experience here, you get tired of people asking what you've done. Unless you wear a placard - Yes, I've got a black eye. No, I don't know what happened.. No, the old man didn't land me one, and so on......
Hope you have a good journey to Sheffield anyway.

    Hope Lee improves, Dumpling.

Glad to hear your OH seems to be getting a bit better Csarina.

Mrs SD, sorry about your OH's eye problem - hope it's fixable.

I'll be having the usual Tuesday, Exercise, bit of shopping, quiz tonight.

Hugs to everyone, especially the TA's.

    Take care folks.

    Morning all

Brrr chilly here again apparently we are to have a late heatwave towards the end of the week and this weekend :j that would be very nice indeed !!

Off to work today nice quiet client group today just three in today and one is non verbal, but one is very sweary to make up for it !!

Not sure what is for dinner tonight will go and look in the fridge after this, there is several bits in there including chicken and mince I think so we wont starve.

Need to do a wash tonight will have to put it on the airer, also we need to have the fridge freezer defrosted by sat morning or the wont collect !! So we need to work out the logistics of not having a freezer or fridge for 24 hours !!

Right I had better get on, have good days all xx

TA thinking of you both xx
  • Good morning all,

Actually a nice morning in Glasgow, with wispy type clouds in the blue sky.

Drove to the gym this morning in pitch black which was a sharp reminder that summer is over and winter is around the corner. This subsequently makes me panic about Christmas, but I've got some time to remedy that.

Yesterday I played football twice after work which sure took it out of me and then opted for an early night. Keen to get back into my routine again. Tonight, I have TGFW coming over so I need to nip to the SM and get some food in for the week ahead.

This morning I got YNAB all up to date and I'm scrapping by for now. I hope there's a conversation in work around the corner about offering me a pay rise. Or, I might be lucky in the new job offer and reap the rewards there. Time will tell.

AoD - Hope you feel better soon. Even if it just a cold!
Nelski - Wow, you've really had a nightmare....
    SR - Good luck tonight.

    Morning everyone,

Oh the joy of waking up to a warm house and indulging in a long, hot shower, absolute bliss. As you might have guessed our lovely plumber located the leak, under the floorboards in the upstairs hallway, and fixed it. He doesn’t think there will be any long term damage but it will take up to a month for everything to dry out. We have an electrician coming today to check the light fitting etc.
Lu also managed to remove one of her shoes so need to get lovely farrier out to put that back on, it’s all go here :rotfl:
Welcome back Speky glad you enjoyed your holiday and came back so refreshed.
You must have caught yourself in the night Nelski how strange.
Will keep fingers crossed that DH’s op happens soon MrsSD
Thoughts as always with the TA’s

    Have a good day folks

    Good morning all.

Whilst it's clear and dry here just now terrible weather is forecast for later today.

My twilight teaching session yesterday was much calmer than before. We seemed to have entered a truce so it's good. It's tough for these young chaps, all day a school and then straight into a two hour class by VC. One of the students who was initially the most difficult then goes straight off to work in a restaurant afterwards.

Thoughts go out to our little family here - from those with mysterious injuries to colds and those doing intensive caring.

    Happy Tuesday.
