Rejecting a new car

I have started the process of rejecting a new car through VW due to the safety recall related to the rear seatbelt unbuckling whilst the car is in operation.
Has anyone ever rejected a new car before and con give any information on what is likely to happen, timescales etc?
VWUK seem to be onside and agree that I am able to reject.
Thanks

Better off asking VW UK on time scales - I assume you have delivered the car back to the dealer and looking for another car now?
If it was bought through finance then you get the agreement cancelled and deposit refunded?0 -

Thanks for your reply. I did speak to VW and they advise 4-6 weeks, when I suggested it was awfully long if everyone was onside he said thats the timescales I have to give. I guess I was kind of looking for everyones experiences.
I have found a new car, finance approved, just need them to fully agree the return of my Polo. I have been told I do not need to hand it back just yet.0 -
Assume you are not using the car? To do so would surely look like you are accepting it.Thinking critically since 1996....0

Of course not, even though the problem is with the seatbelt0

Was the issue going to affect you in the short term until they fixed it in November (temp fix currently in place)?
You have a bit of previous for rejecting cars made by VW why not buy another marque?0 -
Sorry but I’ve never rejected a car. If you are referring to my posts from THREE years ago, the dealer fixed the issue/I put up with it. In between that car and this I had another car which had no problems. I must applaud you for browsing three years worth of my posts though.
The problem has affected me and will continue to do until the fix is released. As it’s been in once and they stuck a cable to on it (which didn’t fix it) I have no confidence the fix will be released anytime soon.0 -

Just so you are aware, both VW and the dealer have confirmed that I do not need to return the car or stop driving it until the rejection is complete and authorised.0 -
Verbal or in writing?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

If you often drive with the use of all 3 seat belts in the rear then I would drop it off to the dealers at the first opportunity and get another car that fits your needs.0
