  • No the account is showing as still open with Natwest with a balance still owing, but Cabot is now showing as settled as I have actually paid it all off.
  • Then yes - if that is the same debt then you need to contact NatWest to update it.

And check all 3 of your credit files
  • Thank you. I will contact them as I thought it wasn't correct.

    Hi both,

Sorry to re-open this thread. Is this worth contacting Natwest Directly? As I raised a dispute through noddle who in turn contacted Natwest who refused to put the balance as £0 and mark as closed. The Cabot accounts are still running, so still at present, I am seeing both.

Do I need to contact them again?

    Chris
  • If Natwest have sold the account in they MUST mark the account as closed and the balanace as zero.

If they’ve refused in writing to do so the raise a complaint via the FOS.

Have Cabot issued a Notice of Assignment. Usually Cabot purchase debts but many debt companies also work on behalf of creditors. So if Natwest are still the legal owners with Cabot simply being collectors, then they won't update it, but if its sold on they should.

Since you posted about this in Sept, the CRA should have been updated, you need to raise a complaint with Natwest first before you can go to FOS. Bear in mind it can take 8 weeks.

Cabot is a debt purchaser - they don't act as a collection agents for original creditors such as NatWest.

They do, however, use solicitors such as Restons, Shoosmiths and Mortimer Clarke (who they own) to act as collection agents on their behalf.

If Cabot are writing to the OP then they will own the debt.
