9 month contract + Free 5310???

I may be off the mark with this but hear me out...

Carphone Warehouse have a new deal on all £35 O2 & Orange contracts. You get a free Nokia 5310 with 1/2 line rental on 02 for 9 mths and 1/2 line rental on Orange for 12 mths. Both must be 18 mth contracts.

CPWH Complete insurance allows you to cancel your 18mth contract after 9mths. This costs £8.60 per month.

In theory, that should mean on 02 for example, if you cancel your contract after the 9mths are up...

£26.10 p/m (line rental & insurance)
9 mth contract (cancel 18mth contract after 9mths)
Free Nokia 5310
400 mins 500 txts per mth
+ other advantage of complete insurance.

Does anyone here work for the CPWH? Could there be a catch?

Hi - Problem with this idea is to look at how you get the discounted line rental.

On 02 you pay £35 a month and claim discount by chequeback of £39.38 a time at 6, 10, 14, and 18 months giving 9 months half price.

Therefore 9 months line rental @ £35 = £315.00
9 Months Insurance @ £8.60 p/mth = £77.40

Total = £392.40

Less the 6 month chequeback of £39.38

Total cost for 9 Mths = £353.02 or £39.22 per month for 9 months.

As you will not have bills after you have used your Insurance, you will not be able to claim further chequebacks as you will no longer be connected.

Look at the whole picture.

PS; Same applies to Orange and a lot of other deals from CPW.

Another problem is that you MUST return the phone along with all accessories if you want to cancel your contract under the Airtime Contract Protection part of Carphone Warehouse's Lifeline Insurance Policy.

So no, it's not a 'Free' phone as you have to return the phone in order to cancel the contract early.
