Freecom all the way, avoid LaLacie like the plague very unreliable.

I've had both WD / MyBook and LaCie drives on Macs and PCs for many years, never had any reliability issues. LaCie certainly no problem, my first CDRW in 1997 was a LaCie, it cost and arm and a leg, and never once failed, but I've had external HDs too from them. They are more popular with Mac users than PCs, because the designs are more aimed at that market (F.A. Porsche designed enclosures etc). The only HDs failures I've ever had were an IBM travelstar in a notebook!

I'll still pick the WD MyBook at the moment, as it does everything I need, it's reliable, fast, and has multiple interfaces so I can switch between machines.

The drives in LaCie models are usually made by other HD companies anyway, they don't actually manufacture HDs themselves, just like many other external drive enclosure companies.
