External Hard Drive - Recommendations?

Hi

I have a large number of photos, videos etc on my laptop, so to free up space am thinking of getting an external hard drive.

Ive found the seagate 250GB freeagent at £49.99.

Is this any good? can anyone recommend an alternative?

thanks!

Seagate are good the price is good.

You can get a 320gb Western digital external HD for another £10

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/109361

And if you buy before tomorrow you get you can get £10 off with google checkout and the postage is free so you get the extra 70gb for the same price you would have got 250gb.

    Google checkout offer: http://www.ebuyer.com/special/1314

The WD (Western Digital) MyBooks come highly recommended from me, different versions have different interfaces, I've a 500Gb Premium which has USB and Firewire, and it's been very reliable and extremely fast over firewire.

I'd also review LaCie drives too.

A few days ago in PC world I saw WG 250GB for £89.99, so your price at £49.99 sounds like a bargain to me.
  • thanks everyone for the comments. As long as its easy to set up, its fine by me!

thanks planemad for the tip about the better offer - shame I wasnt on line in time to get it! thanks anyway!

Try maplin.co.uk and search for hard drives. Get as large a one as you can afford because they can fill up quitwe quickly. I have two, a 250 gb Buffallo and a western digital mybook 300 gb. You just plug them in and go.

  • Does anyone know if the Freeagent ones, or any others for that matter, are Vista compatible? I can't find this info clearly on their website.

    Thanks

    MyBook.

I can't comment on reliability or durability however as i don't have one. MyBook Pro available from Amazon: should be reviews there also. They also do a nice Remote Access version:)
