This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
I’m starting to feel like winter is on the way now. It has certainly felt so much colder the past couple of days.
I am increasingly finding myself fancying more stews and casseroles. I am going to make a beef stew for dinner tonight. There is some veg in the fridge starting to look a bit limp, so that will get that used up and I want to make an apple cake for pudding, I fancy that with some custard.
Other plans for today are mainly centred around reading and catching up on some tv programmes that I have got recorded.
A pretty mundane Saturday.
Hopefully I haven’t created confusion by starting today’s thread. Didn’t realise it was so early.
Great news about DGSB getting a second interview JackieO, lets hope he gets the job.
Thinking of the TAs and everyone else who is unwell or caring for people who are.
I hope that you all have a good day whatever you are up to today.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Holly and hugs to all those in need.
I've managed only two hours sleep, the water levels dropped suddenly and the kitchen drawer shot open and woke me up.
I'm now waiting for it to get light so I can see if we can refloat.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting today's thread Hollyharvey. Hope all is well with water levels HuH.
I've managed nearly 4 hours of sleep but have woken with gluey eyes, a streaming nose and earache. My head hurts. This is nothing in the scheme of things but a nuisance nevertheless. I think we should have some Beecham so will hunt those out. I've also got the warning signs of a migraine but fortunately I don't get sick and usually they are over quickly.
Saturday is shopping day (an activity performed by OH) and I am hoping that he does this early as I'm down to a tint, tiny bit is skimmed milk for tea. The local shop doesn't sell it, only blue and green top milk. I will use green if I must but I am not keen.
I don't think I'm likely to achieve a huge lot today but that's ok, the house is reasonably clean and relatively tidy and it doesn't really matter that much, apart from annoying me when untidiness reaches a certain level.
Hoping that everyone has as good a day as possible and I am sending special thoughts to those of us who are unwell or worried.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning everyone,
I think thanks to my swim yesterday, and a less than ideal evening, I slept through until 7.00 which is longer than usual. Small efforts have a big effect, thanks to an autoimmune disorder and chronic muscle fatigue. Sleep wise, it may also help that the all night electric blanket is back on the bed, no chilly draughts when I turn over in my sleepLike you Holly, feeling very much that cooler weather is on its way now our long hot summer is over.
Commiserations Hester, it seems to me life on board is very varied, that includes the fluctuating water level and its effects on random drawers opening and disturbing your sleep!
Keep cosy, aod, nest and rest. Everything can take care of itself while you take care of you. Sometimes we just need to take time out to rest and recover.
Today I have my usual Saturday meet up for a cuppa with friends. Then I'm going to give Reiki to a couple of friends affected by cancer. It helps them both to relax at a very deep level, which they both need and benefit from - and so do I. So it will be a lovely afternoon for all three of us.
Food wise, it's bacon and tomato for breakfast, a soup and salad lunch at my friends', and the second half of last night's chicken liver saute for tea, with a salad. I bought some plums yesterday and will make some plums in brandy for my aunt's and my cousin's Christmas. It's a long tradition, and they give me the Kllner jars back every year, auntie fills hers with chocolates and my cousin sends hers filled with cat treats!
My summer clothes have been packed away, and long sleeves with a cardigan or fleece will do until it gets really cold, then I'll really get rugged up. I live in central Scotland, and I feel the cold. Brrrrr.
Sending love to the poorlies and the carers, and wishing everyone the best day possible. ETA - Gers, I hope you enjoy your weekend off.0 -
Morning all
Grey and miserable today so its a good excuse to stay in PJs and keep warm and cosy.
Usual Saturday plans.. shopping delivery, befriending call and some cleaning.
Had my Kiev last night and it was gorgeous. Just to say the recipe I posted is not the one I use as I don't have an issue with gluten. With the amount of bread I consume I know this is true  The recipe I use is this one by my babe Simon Rimmer
Chicken Kievs with added gluten its pretty much the same though just "full fat" flour and breadcrumbs
Tonight I am planning on corned beef hash for tea with beansthanks nan I also have a 5 bean chilli I got out yesterday so will have to find some room for that too
HH hope you manage to refloat your boat OK you certainly have to cope with some very different issues from the rest of us
TAHugs as always
jackiemum fingers crossed for Ben its a good sign they told him so quickley
Enjoy your weekend everyone0 -
Good morning and thank you Holly.
It seems fine and dry here, but chilly I think.
Holly, yes, it's definitely casserole weather. We had lamb casserole last night, and it was lovely.
Sorry to hear you were woken by a rogue drawer HH, how do the water levels drop suddenly?
Sounds like you aren't well at all AOD, hope you'll soon feel better
WeeMidgie, I was taking summer clothes out of the wardrobe last night. It doesn't seem long since it was 30 degrees in the shade in our backyard. I was interested to see that you are a Reiki practitioner- a friend of mine is and I would love to try it. I think there is one based in our little town as well.
Today, what delights does it hold - we are thinking of going into Newcastle for a wander, maybe visit one of the museums.
Thinking of everyone who is poorly and/or struggling with life.
Take care folks.0 -
Morning everyone,
Just enjoying my first cuppa of the day, as others have said it’s feeling much more autumnal here with a drop of nearly 10 degrees from earlier in the week. At least the wind has subsided for now.
Talking of dropping, hope you are ok HUH, could someone have left a lock gate open again?
I am off to the yard soon to exercise that lovely horse of mine, then after lunch am meeting up with a pal for coffee, cake and a good catch up. We first met when I had Bill and we were yard mates, her mare is 24 now and still very sprightly, haven’t seen her since March so looking forward to swapping all our news.
Thoughts are with all poorlies or those caring for loved ones, have a good day folks x0 -
Morning folks.
Wasn't the moon bright last night! Full moon is on Tuesday so it's waxing, I like to see it that way.
ScarletRibbons - have you tried the Hancock Museum? I used to live five minutes from it and often wandered through to it.
HH - I hope you managed to sleep some more. Hester - you too.
WeeMidge - my free weekend is great!
Today I will be mostly reading. I've accidentally started two book so must crack on with one at least.
If the rain holds off I'll plant some snakes head bulbs. Yesterday I noticed an unusual shape on the pile of rotting chopped up branches at the base of my tree. Turned out to be a whole branch torn off by the storm. It's now been moved to the corner bit out of the way.
First thing to do it to have a shower and then get moving!
My thoughts are with you all.
Happy Strictly Saturday.0 -
Bit nippier here in north Kent but nowhere near cold enough to put the heating on yet I just put on a thicker cardi
Bit of a pottering day today, watch a bit of TV, and do a bit of knitting I am off out to my eldest DDs house for dinner tonight so no cooking for me and I have HM soup and crackers for lunch.
I have everything crossed for our Ben as he is getting quite despondent at the moment. He has even applied online for temporary Christmas work at the post office delivering mail just to earn a few pounds, His G/friend is in the US at the moment visiting relatives as she doesn't start her Masters degree until next month at UCL.
DGS Jack is enjoying freshers week, and today his sister, her OH and baby are driving up to see him and take a few more things up that he needs, odds and ends that got forgotten.
Weather is a bit cloudy and rain is forecast so I am glad I don't have to go shopping for anything and can just have a gentle potter around today
Hope everyone is safe and warm and the storms haven't caused you too much trouble
<<hugs >> to those who need one
Take care all
JackieO xx0 -
good morning, thanks for the new thread Holly, I could have joined you, I woke at 1am with indigestion, but dropped off again and OH woke me at 8 this morning. OH not a happy chap, was all set to go cycling, first time for nearly a week, but the weather forecast for the whole area is now dire, it could be a long day:(
Hester sorry about the lack of sleep, is the level dropping that much a common happening?
AOD stay snuggled up and try and fight off the bugs if you can, I hope it passes quickly.
WeeMidgie I am similar to you and am contemplating putting the electric blanket back on my bed today. ATM moment I am making good use of my 2 cherry stone heated bags (much better than the wheat ones) and I am to be seen clasping one to my body with one arm while attempting chores with the other:rotfl:
Nelski your food ideas sound yummy. I have been searching the CS for some books and every time I see one by a certain rather good looking chef I think of you:D
ScarlettRibbons have a great day out today.
Lainey nothing like a good catch up with old friends, have a good time,
Gers my OH commented on the moon too, I was just about to go and look for myself when he said that a cloud had obscured it:(
Hugs and spoons and caring thoughts to all who need one. Not sure what today has in store for me, ought to be housework, but ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:eek:The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
