Buyer of my house wants to put up a shed and store things before exchanging contracts?

  • I can't be the only one dying to know the rest of that story! Did you let them fit wardrobes?!

We gawped at them for a bit, then gave them a definite 'no'. They were quite unimpressed. Apparently, her 'gowns' were in desperate need of proper hanging.

Ah, that's not nearly as interesting as I'd hoped from your 'things went downhill from there' teaser!
  • We have not held this up but it is actually their solicitor causing delay and has not yet raised enquires.
Suggest he puts a shed in his solicitors garden.

    Ok, there was more.

We'd made the mistake of telling them where the cottage we were hoping to buy was located (small village, unusual, property, easy to find). This was back when vendors did a lot of their own viewings, and these buyers had asked why we were moving and where to. They were an older couple and seemed so nice. The day after we refused their wardrobe request, we got a call from the cottage's estate agent to say these buyers had made an offer on the cottage, it had been considerably higher than ours, and the vendor had accepted it. Then we got a call from these wardrobe-obsessed buyers - if we'd agree to their terms (they also upped the ante and added fitting a new kitchen to their list of demands), they'd 'release' the cottage to us.

We told them to go pickle their heads. We decided not to sell our flat (we still own it now), and put the whole business down to experience. Six months later, the wife from this couple turned up on our doorstep, told us she'd 'released' the cottage, and asked if we were ready give in. Her last words to us were 'you have our number'.

That was about eleven years ago. Given that we're now going to sell the house we live in and that flat, I half expect them to turn up again, though I do believe that one of them has died since then.

Are you sure they were not his gowns?

    Yes I know, absolutely brilliant.
  • We had a buyer who wanted to come and build a pond for his Koi Carp before exchange. He did offer a large non refundable deposit and if things fell through to remove all evidence of the pond. We said it needed to be in a legal contract which he would have to pay for.

Perhaps luckily he pulled out soon afterwards.

:rotfl: You have a point. I am now imagining him in pink chiffon with copious amounts of sequins.
