This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
I had a very successful day shopping yesterday and managed to get presents for everyone who I need to buy for, so that is something else ticked off my list of things to do before I go into hospital.
Lunch was really good as well. We walked past a pub with a menu board outside in the morning and there were a few things on there we both fancied so went back there at lunch time and we weren’t disappointed.
Today I have got an appointment for a check-up at the dentist. I had an email from them a few weeks ago to say that my usual dentist had left to work on the South coast and they had changed my appointment to the owner of the practice. Some friends see him and have always been happy with their treatment, so I have decided to stay with them.
Other than that appointment I haven’t got much planned for this morning so will catch up on a bit of housework.
As always you are in my thoughts TA.
AOD I noticed that the trees are starting to lose their leaves early as well. I'm with you on hoping for a long autumn before the cold really sets in.
I hope that you all have a good day whatever you are up to today.0 -
Morning all
I can't sleep despite being in bed at 10pm. Mr Fix It is having a restless night too so I thought I would come downstairs for a cuppa. I will go back to bed in a bit and hopefully get some shut eye.
Yesterday I filled a black bag with paperwork out of the office and my mission today is to shred it all, ready to put out for recycling next week. If I have the energy later I want to make some individual tarts, some rhubarb and some blackberry and apple.
The rain has finally stopped although it is still blowing a gale outside and it's still too dark to see if there is any damage. It seems that the rain will be back this afternoon and carry on until Monday . It was so cold last night I even put the heating on for a while, I was hoping to get to October at least.
Mr Fix It cooked corned beef hash for yesterday's tea and there is enough leftover for us to have tonight too. Shhhh don't tell him it was delicious :shhh: and better than my efforts :rotfl:. ( He won't tell me what he put in it to make it so tasty, says it's a secret recipe)
Righty ho tea finished, so I'm off to my bed, to sleep, perchance to dream. I hope it's not like last nights dream, we were visiting my cousins in Australia and sleeping in a Motor Home. Haven't got any rellies abroad nor do we have a motor home. I suppose someone may have the answer as to what that was all about, but for the life of me I can't think where the idea came from !
MeanMarie happy to see you back
Holly thanks for the start off and I'm glad you managed to do your Christmas shopping.
JackieO my fingers are crossed for your DGS. I'm sure he will find employment soon.
See you all later perhaps.
Love and hugs to all.

Morning all and thank you for starting today's thread Hollyharvey. Your day yesterday does sound positive and fun.
I have slept a bit longer even though I woke several times.I also had a nap yesterday morning as I knew that I was so tired that getting through the day would have been a struggle. I achieved nothing much from my list, just laundry which is a constant activity especially getting it dry when it is too wet outside and before the heating goes on. I did put it on for an hour just to help the washing along. Another load is just finishing now.
Not sure what I want to do today - house is relatively tidy as I've done bits through the week and I'm really noticing that I have less to do at the end of the week now that I'm at home, I am not sure about going out as we are likely to have more rain. The forecast changes all the time at present but I am feeling quite cold at the moment.
I think it is nearing the time to start wearing warmer clothes!
Thinking of those who are unwell or worried.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning.
It's grey and damp outside though the storm has gone away, all is calm again.
My day will be unstructured and free-flowing. :j I'll pull something out of the freezer as the local supermarket had no fresh meat of any kind, the chiller units are broken so they can't accept deliveries.
My thoughts are with the poorlies and those caring for them. Happy Friday to all.0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Holly, pleased you managed all your shopping and enjoyed your lunch
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
Visit to mother yesterday was ok. She did manage a few words before closing her eyes and ignoring us. I really don't understand, we are the only ones to visit her, I would have thought she would have been pleased to have company and some one to talk to.
Quite a chill in the air this morning, love autumn but not looking forward to the cold.
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Hello everyone, some of you might have seen me around Old Style, usually Kondo or use it up threads. I retired early due to burnout eighteen months ago, and moved into a retirement flat earlier this year. That's been a really positive move, as I'm now in a neighbourhood where I know quite a few people.
Holly, well done on getting your Christmas shopping done, great to have that sorted in advance of your treatment. Sending best wishes to the TAs, Csarina, and everyone else affected by health challenges.
JackieO, it's a full time job finding a job these days, but perseverance will pay off for your DGS.
I had a reasonable night's sleep last night, and woke up just after 5.00am. Today I'm taking my everlasting tapestry to a sewing group which a couple of friends also go to. There's an awful lot of background still to be worked, and it's nice to do it in company.
Thanks to a tax rebate I've been able to join a leisure club not far from home, and I use the off peak membership to have a swim, the aim is to go daily. Off peak is great as it's quiet during the day.
Time to get up, if the cat lets me - she's sprawled along my legs, purring like a Rolls Royce engine, and warmer than a hot water bottle.
Wishing you the best day possible.0 -
Morning all
Looks like a nice day here atm but its meant to rain later, Ive not had a good night as it was very windy here and there seems to be something wrong with the window as it was 'whistling' all night
OH slept through it but I just couldn't get to sleep, today will be fun at workoh well at least its Friday.
We might treat ourselves to fish and chips tonight which will be nice.
Need t do a wash tonight but my lovely L will be here cleaning this morning so no housework needed :T
Not heard anything from AOI cant remember who said about e-mailing the CEO but that's a brilliant idea thank you, I have got his e-mail and will sit and do that tonight, I have also been in contact with citizens advice, so will see what happens.
Hugs to all in need have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all,
Running a bit late here so it'll be a quick one as I'm going running once I've dropped the HT at school which means I won't be back here until mid-day. Good news about school is that his pupil progress leader has made a start on the things we discussed the night before last and he was much happier yesterday. My new bed is lovely - it's so good not to hurt when I lie down. I should have bought it ages ago.
Yesterdays cake making with my friend went well and he has also finally had a brand new cooker from AO after the back blew off the last new one when he switched it on.
Take care all of you0 -
Morning All
It's September weekend, hurrah! It's a local holiday so we have today and Monday off. I'm going to a caravan on the East coast later today with DS1 and the DGC. Hoping the weather improves as it's not very warm and is very showery! Still, the DGC will enjoy the swimming pool and it's right by the beach, need to see if I can get some buckets, spades and baggy nets for them on the way.
My visit to the guides was good, what a lovely group of girls. They were making dish bags from pillow cases so wanted a seam sown to put the drawstring in. Once they were started I let them use the machine themselves, they were really good.
DD didn't need any help with the painting but I took stuff to the tip for her on my way home. Also did some shopping for the weekend so that's all sorted.
Welcome WeeMidgie.
Shocking customer service RR, hope you get it resolved soon.
Good to hear from you MM, you've been missed.
Hugs to you TA.
Happy Friday! Take care. XX0 -
Good morning, and thank you Holly. Glad you had a good day yesterday.
Hello, Wee Midgie!!
Damp outside, but bright enough - the rain's stopped.
I'm a bit later this morning, as I was awake through the night with neck and shoulder pain, I eventually took some painkillers.
The leaves are falling fast now, I don't like Autumn, it's a melancholy time. I've got winter coats out of storage, but don't want to start wearing them yet, though it hasn't really been cold so far.
I don't know what today will bring, I might go to the library. The house is ok, I did a lot yesterday, and OH cleared up outside after the gales of Wednesday. I know there's another storm rolling in, hope it's not going to be too bad.
Anyway, have a good day all, whatever you're doing.
Take care folks0
