If you had done research you would of seen that Mini gearboxes are not good so a car with "clutch" fault should be sent alarm bells ringing and instant £1500 off the retail price to allow for a secondhand gearbox.
No point in rejecting the car now you have bought a clutch, gearbox, radiator, brake pads - didnt give the supplying dealer a chance to fix it - the cosmetics you would of seen when you bought it. I just hope it was cheap enough for you to buy in the first place.
Although the law says that you cannot sell an unroadworthy car these days - not sure what you would get out of it going to Trading Standards but by all means use a bit of your time and go down that road. Doubt you will get a cheque from the dealer though for what you have spent on it.
Not all the manual boxes are bad, the early Midland boxes were poor but the later Getrag boxes were ok. Depends on the age of the mini in questions to which box was fitted. Auto's are good, most were/are sold in the USOne man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0 -
If it were just this or that then dont you think the garage selling it would have sorted it if it were that simple? Saw a dealer advertising a BMW with the description Fob just needs battery LOL if it needs a battery put a bl**dy battery in then! More likely central locking screwed.0

Thanks for the replies, wouldnt take back just for measly battery. Am just concerned as there are more faults than explained, it just seems never ending when initially all i was told was it would just need a new clutch.
Thanks i will go to trading standards
If it was sold as unroadworthy/not to be driven is it even possible to return it for faults?
How much did you know about cars and inspect on it before buying? Or was it purely based on the dealer telling you?Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
It's the risk you take buying spares/repairs. You either buy them and bear the risk or pay full market value for a working car0

Agreed - but the OP's gearbox was not good and I doubt they will know the difference between the Getraq boxes.0 -

I was just saying not all Mini boxes are bad, mainly the early boxes.
FYI - Midland boxes 5 speed
Getrag boxes 6 speed
So fairly easy to checkOne man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0 -

So you're going to go to trading standards with a receipt saying "car sold with sll known faults gearbox etc car ti be fixed before road use"?
Sorry, but you bought an old car in need of a load of work. Old MINIs can be horribly unreliable.0 -

You effectively bought a car that even the garage that sold it to you could not fix.0
