I have the same sort of issue and will read newbies thread. But it is no good saying don't say who is driving if you have a blue badge. It is obvious?

    why ?

I have a current BB and its not obvious to me

recently my son drove the family in his own vehicle to London to watch a show and the vehicle was parked near the theatre in a designated BB bay (and was registered for the congestion charge etc too) using my BB as me and my wife went with him

my registered vehicle was left back at home on my driveway (the vehicle that the BB is "registered" to, (although its actually ME that is registered with social services, not the vehicle)

I was an occupant of his vehicle but no driving was done by me

when we got back, my wife and I went to my local asda to shop and we parked in a disabled bay and displayed MY blue badge

question for you, - who was the driver ? me or my wife ?

or did one of us drive there and the other drive it back ?

also , when my dear departed mum was still alive, she had a BB for years and all the family drove her to appointments and shopping etc because she had never ever driven a vehicle in her life , didnt ever own a driving licence either (so at no time was she ever the driver) - her BB was used dozens of times per annum to "protect" the vehicle that carried her whilst it was parked

the only rule is that the BB owner must be an occupant of the vehicle if the badge is being used (no absentee owner)

so I am afraid that your statement is complete hogwash

Just say 'we' rather than 'I' in any appeal or complaint, and talk about being 'an occupant of the car who displayed their Blue Badge'.

It's not rocket science to appeal or complain without saying who actually drove!

Sadly, even the OP of this thread has some confusion over the Blue Badge. As pointed out above by fisherjim, a blue badge is issued (registered if you like) to an individual who has mobility issues and allows them to use their Blue Badge when travelling in any vehicle whether as a driver or as a passenger.

So, displaying a Blue Badge in no way confirms that the holder is/was the driver.

When I received my Blue Badge I was asked to give the Vehicle Reg of 3 cars to which my Blue Badge would be registered to - hence I used the term 'registered'.

That's ridiculous. Was it years ago?

They do not ask that question now. You can of course be a passenger in anyone's car.

There is no such thing as Registered Disabled and hasn't been for decades.

I bet that your badge has no details of any vehicle on it, only the holders name, expiry date and photograph, along with the issuing authority.

    2. Who can use the badge?

The badge is for your use and benefit only. It must only be displayed if you are travelling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger, or if someone is collecting you or dropping you off and needs to park at the place where you are being collected or dropped.

I had it issued 2 years ago. Perhaps it's the council that issue it?

TBH I've never checked, I've only ever used it in the 3 cars it's registered to as I was worried I would get fined if used in a different car. I am unable to drive due to my disability, so I'm reliant on others. I'm now going to look into it! Thank you.
  • UPDATE - I won the appeal. No further action is being taken.
I am relieved after reading all the comments and now very much wiser to the tricks that this company use.
Interestingly, when I received my appeal letter they suggested I call to register for parking in future. This is the the telephone number I'd previously called - which gives no option to register! Simply says parking is free at the location. Unbelievable.
