Ending Virgin contract

I want to end my Virgin contract which I can do by Oct 31. However the Broadband signal was through a fibre line . If I change to another , cheaper ,supplier, will they be able to provide a new fibre cable or go back to the old now disused copper line installed 30 years ago and not used for 10-15 years or can they use the existing fibre?

Comments

  • Depends on which type of fibre you go for or is available, FTTC or FTTH / FTTP. FTTC probably would use the old copper line if serviceable, if not it should be replaced.

VM own their own cable so no one else can use it anyway.

Well virgin is through coax copper.

Yes any other service would be through BT OR copper. But I’m getting 40 Mbps as that is the maximum I am paying for

Probability is fibre to the cabinet then onwards via copper line .

Virgin has faster speeds and generally more reliable. Switching elsewhere will require a fresh installation which you’ll have to pay for.

From my experience at work I'd dispute that claim greatly.

You have no idea BTW whether the existing copper pair is okay or not and generally the new supplier would pick up any costs although every case will be different.
