This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
I’m planning on getting a bit of Christmas shopping done this morning just in case I’m not up to it nearer the time. I’m going shopping with a friend this morning to a larger town and hope to get most of the presents I need to buy.
As we will be out, we are going to have lunch somewhere. It will be nice to go somewhere different for a change. I will probably just have some cheese on toast in the evening if I want anything else to eat.
Yesterday evening I sorted out the contents of a blanket chest and was pleased to clear out quite a lot of things that I didn’t even know were in there, so it was time they went. This has freed up a bit of room to store the summer duvet. I just need to make sure that I don’t end up filling the remaining gaps with things I don’t really need.
AOD – hope you had a better night.
Bellabella – glad you decided to keep posting.
I hope that you got the call back from a manager at AO redruby. Having taken two days off work already for engineer visits they need to sort this out for you.
Silver-oldie I hope that the visit to your mother today isn’t too stressful, and that she is in one of her better moods.
Lainey – days like that at the seaside are the best. I hope that Tilly has fully recovered today.
Snoozer 13 miles is quite a walk, I’m not surprised that you felt a bit sore.
Csarina it sounds like the new care company assessor was very thorough. Hopefully it is a sign of things to come and they will provide good care for your OH.
Right, time to go and find a cup of tea.
Thinking of everyone who is unwell and caring for people who are.
I hope that you all have a good day whatever you are up to today.0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.
Not sure what woke me but I am wide awake - might have been the rain. The local forecast is for rain and wind throughout the day so I'm glad I went out yesterday. I got blown about but not wet.
The wind has blown a lot of leaves from the trees and some of them were starting to lose their leaves very early anyway, through lack of water. Things are beginning to feel quite autumnal and I'm hoping for a long autumn before the cold sets in, I don't think I'm really a winter person.
Today I will carry on with jobs from my list but there's nothing really urgent on it. I am tired and may go back to bed later to catch up on sleep.
Thinking of those who are unwell or worried.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Thanks for starting us off Holly & I hope you have a lovely day, a successful XMas shop & a nice lunch:)
Have been a bit remiss in posting the last couple of days but as I am about to go to bed  I thought I would wish everyone as good a Thursday as possible & send (((hugs))) to all the poorlies, carers of poorlies & those struggling with RL for whatever reason.
Good night & hope the Sandman visits

Morning
Holly hope today is a success for you but I'm struggling to forgive you for the daily references to the worst "C" word in the language:D
Yesterdays course went really well and I had a lovely group who made the day fly by. Same course today but different group so hoping as its the same company they will be equally lovely. Lunch is provided which is a nice treat. Leaving a bit later today as I now know where it is and despite the traffic I was there way to early yesterday and had to sit in the car for ages waiting for reception staff to arriveCompany is on the site of the Trafford centre so temptation is abound ...must resist. Tonight I have a VIP slot for Next too so I am surrounded with shopping opportunities today
Had pizza for tea last night but it was really disappointing wont have the rest of it I'm afraid its hitting the bin. Tonight Ill have some chilli I think.
Hope everyone has a good day and as always TA you are in my thoughts0 -
Morning All
All calm here after the storm, yes it did arrive and jolly blowy it was too! No damage but I'm now the owner of a sun brolly, think it belongs to next door but they'll not want it back as it's all broken now.
Swimming, work, helping DD with some painting and then I've to take my sewing machine to help the guides make something, not sure what or when, hopefully I'll find out later. A friend runs the guide troup but she really is terrible at letting me know what she wants.
Happy Christmas shopping Holly!
Have you survived the storm Gers?
Well done on the walk snoozer.
RR - How's your back?
Hugs to the TAs, and anyone else in need.
Happy Thursday, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was roast chicken portions, mash, LO cauli/broc cheese, LO yorkshires, carrots, broc, green beans, swede (for me) and gravy - good clearing up of fridge contents. I need to organise something for tonights' dinner, I'll do that when I shop later.
Work yesterday was very slow with the occasional flurry of customers, but telephone calls remain high, but not enough staff doesn't help so we try to manage helping the telephone staff as and when we can. I'm pleased to be on annual leave now, we go away early hours tomorrow morning, so today will be a busy day of getting everything sorted. I don't mind getting everything sorted though, most of the clothes we want to take just need to be packed, as they are more winter type clothes that haven't been used since earlier in the year. We'll be taking jeans/trousers, tops and jumpers, it's not likely to be very warm as the temperature that far North is already substantially lower than here, we don't do too much posh eating out, so posh clothes not really needed, although I'll take a pair of trousers and nice top just in case. I also need to pack 2 bags the main bag and an overnight one as we stop en route. I was having a quick look through my clothes the other day and was pleased to find jeans that I couldn't wear comfortably in early July now fit very comfortably - I didn't think half a stone would make much difference but it definitely has.
So must get going with the "to do" list.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thank you Holly for starting off.
Still half dark outside, but it's dry. The trees are waving about a bit, but not like yesterday. Hope it's calmed down a bit.
Holly, it's a good idea to start Christmas shopping, hope you get what you want. Enjoy your lunch out.
Another early start for you AOD, hope you can manage a nap later.
Sleep well Mrs SD
Glad your day went well yesterday Nelski, and the traffic wasn't too bad. Hope it's the same today.
I packed a picnic yesterday and we went up to A*nwick Gardens. We go quite often as we have "Friends of A*nwick Gardens" cards and it's only an hour away for us. We always say we'll go every month to see the changes in the garden, but it never happens that way, life gets in the way.
The rose garden was still lovely, but of course a lot of stuff is dying back now. The walled garden is always nice as well.We might go once more before Christmas (sorry Nels) then that'll be it till about February, when the spring bulbs will be starting. The cherry orchard is spectacular in spring as well. Wonder if the Duchess of Northumberland will give me commission for promoting her gardens, probably not.
When we left there, after doing a bit of shopping in the town, we went to Alnmouth for our picnic. Omg, the wind!! The sea was being whipped up, and clouds of sand were blasting along the beach. There were a couple of dog walkers though. Normally we would have walked on the beach, but not yesterday - we would have been scoured to the bone I think, with that sand.
Started off coming home via the coastal road, which is lovely, but quickly returned to the A1. The little roads were littered with bits of tree, and in some places a layer of soil had blown off the fields, so we thought it was dangerous, with all the roadside trees, didn't want one falling on us
We got home about 4ish, and had the usual quiet evening.
I'm going to do some tidying today, somehow the place has descended into tip - ness, if you know what I mean.
Thinking of everyone who is not well or struggling with life.
Take care folks0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Holly, enjoy your lunch
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
Today we are going to visit mother, wonder if she'll be talking or pretending to be asleep, she still manages to eat biscuits with her eyes closed. I've put a beef casserole in the sc so I won't have to worry about cooking when we get back.
Need to do some housework but I feel very tired so just a quick tidy.
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning folks.
Yes, I survived Storm Ali, shaken and stirred though unhurt. And I have a new 'body' to show for it. :rotfl: Now the wind has died right down and the rain has quietened down too. The clouds are very dense and grey so I can't imagine there'll be any sun today.
There's a huge amount of work being done where I live to remove large swathes of non-native fir trees. The Scottish National Heritage wants the land to become part of the bogland which already covers most of the area. Every day the landscape changes, it's very weird!
I'm still loitering under my duvet after my long driving day yesterday. Later on I've got a class to teach and then I'm finished for the week.
DM has told me not to visit her this weekend! Even though I'm a tad anxious I'm looking forward to my first free weekend for months and months.
HH - hope you enjoy your batch cooking.
NMLC - have a fab holiday. I've been trying to imagine where you work, thought I had it pinned to a council finance place but I'm not convinced. Where do you work?
Hugs to all, special ones to the TAs.
Happy Thursday.0 -
Morning all
Overcast and very blustery here with rain promised all weekendI think we have been spoilt this summer with the weather and I am a bit like a petulant child when its not as nice, I really want to stamp my foot !!!
Off to work and I think Thursday is becoming my favourite day client wise, its a nice calm group with one real character who has us laughing all day.
Camelot my back seems a lot better thank you, the tablets he has given me work wonders :T I am being very careful not to lift anything just in case, well done on your free brolly
Chips for dinner tonight might just do some bacon and eggs with it so nice and easy.
Did not get a call back from AO yesterday  so I phoned again last night another 20 min phone call, but the lady seemed really efficient and has promised me she is personally going to take on my case and keep me informed, we shall see !! I must say there customer service is appalling.
Right must dash, have good days all xx0
