  • Your opinion makes it clearly untrue? ill respect your opinion but ill trust my knowledge and experience to know its NOT clearly untrue.
    Really?? you said, with my emphasis;
hence why no one favours them.

even by virtue of just myself favouring them, it renders your statement incorrect. Let alone the several very busy rx8 forums around..

Surely you'd think a car like this would come with more torque? Is there anything I can do to increase the torque/acceleration?

You must have done zero research. It's quite a step down from an M2, I'm sure. It's a car that loves to be revved. You're meant to be up at 7k RPM. That's where it thrives. If you don't like revs, you're in completely the wrong car. Most cars on the road have more torque. And that tiny torqueless engine helps give great handling.
All the "power" is in the top end from 7k RPM to 9.5k RPM which is virtually unusable in the real world.

Why? 2nd and 3rd gear most of the time for acceleration gives plenty of speed.
I'd hedge a bet here and say you've had Hard cold turn over starting

Nope - they're just having a whinge about a lack of torque, saying the engine's strong, and from previous threads, the engine is fine.
Are RX8s actually meant to be this slow?

I'm sure you've read the stats from Top Trumps - if your car doesn't get from 0-60 in the time it says, there's somehting wrong with your car, or your driving. 240 BHP isn't so much these days. But if you're spending most of your time under 5,000 RPM, you WILL think the engine's rubbish. It IS rubbish down there! Buy a diesel!
Has it been (badly) remapped ?

Not much to be gained from a remap, so it's not popular on the RX8 - not impossible though. The engine is just about as good as it can be without strapping on big expensive things.
Which is my point. You will have to mess around with all 6 gears to get what you want, acceleration, top speed, or economy.

Is that not one of the pleasures of driving?!

What always baffles me, dark matter, is why you think anyone on a money saving forum will be impressed by your claims of car ownership. Plenty on here have had nicer cars, plenty don't care.

I'm sure you'd fit right in if we didn't get such blatantly nonsense stories. It's hard to interact and offer advice when we're not sure you're telling the truth.

For what it's worth, I fully believe you sold your Yaris is and bought an £800 RX-8 with the wrong suspension and are now surprised that it's not as fast in the real world as you assumed from the stats.

If I could justify a 2nd car, I'd be tempted, bit its honestly not worth bragging about. It's at least more believable than the M2 and M3 you claim to have had. But honestly, it's just tedious at this stage.

    +1

I just dont understand the need to make up this whole fantasy life to attempt to impress people on the internet.

I'd be far more impressed with some regular bloke trying to keep an RX-8 out of a scrap yard on a budget rather than this whole back story of buying a Mighty M2 for £35,000 (cash of course) and then getting it written off, and then buying (another) RX-8 but "forgetting" all the nuances of ownership that he'd have experienced from the last one he allegedly had for 8 years.

    Plain daft. Impresses no-one.

Hardly matters. He got dropped at the lights in a 231BHP RX-8 by a Polo diesel. Knowing the specific year / bhp doesnt diffuse the humiliation.

Agreed. I wish i'd the cajones / motivation / time to put in to an RX-8 as a weekend project.

Quite fancy a Puma as a winter project though :)

It was mostly for curiosity. The new Polo GTI has 200bhp and a 60 time of 6.7s so could have given him a run for his money, if it was a 15 year old 1.4 non-turbo diesel then it could only be bad driving. I believe it happened though; that DM believed the hype about the car, tried racing something from the lights and made a total mess of it. I've done the same plenty of times, but I'm an average driver at best.
