Paying in a Cheque without a UK Bank Account

    .....which he will have because he has a letter addressed to him from HMRC!!!!!!!!

    You don't understand.
    The address has to be found 'electronically' on the electoral roll and not on a letter from HMRC (I don't make the rules!).

    No - you're the HMRC customer and they will only d/w you. Unless you appoint her as your agent (complete form 64-8) retrospectively ..... which they may not accept if they can see this is solely for the purpose of varying the payee on the cheque?

    As this is a one-off - pay it into the US account you surely must have. Or get your Mum to take it to a Bureau de Change (accompanied by a note from you saying 'Dear Mum .. and then pasting all this thread as explanation:rolleyes: )and pay the fat fee they will charge in order to get round it.

    Hope the size of the cheque is worth it !!
    If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
