This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
Not much planned for today. I have a couple of loads for the washing machine but I’m not sure whether or not it will dry on the line, the forecast is for a cloudy day, we will see. I can always finish it off in the dryer if I have to.
I will do a bit more batch cooking ready for when I come out of hospital today as well. I was thinking of making goulash and a root stew but will need to go to the supermarket for some more veg first.
I will probably have a quick dust and vacuum through as well.
Camelot what a nightmare getting the spare wheel back to the post office, at least it is done now. Let’s hope the refund comes through quickly
ScarletRibbons – sorry to hear of your diagnosis, I hope that the treatment is working for you.
I’m pleased that DGS Jack is enjoying freshers week JackieO. I’m sure that he will do well.
Redruby hopefully the painkillers from the doctors will help until your back heals.
Congratulations Cranky on the news that you are to become a great aunt. I hope you had a comfortable night in your new bed and slept well.
Silver-oldie – going out people watching while having a coffee is one of my favourite past times. I hope that you found something you wanted to buy with the Argos voucher.
Lainey – hopefully it wasn’t too blowy at the seaside and you had a good time (and fish and chips).
I hope the storm has passed Gers.
Thinking of everyone who is unwell and caring for people who are.
I hope that you all have a good day whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.
OH and DS were out for most of yesterday and I got on with shampooing the hall carpet. It will never be a thing if beauty but at least it is cleaner than it was. I still have some jobs on this week's list and will tackle two of those today.
I have had a restless night, possibly because of the wind howling - it has died down a bit now. Haven't looked at the weather predictions for today but I do need to go to the post office, perhaps OH might take me there in the car. Or I could go to the city, not sure whether I really want to, depends on the weather.
Life isn't particularly fascinating at present. Not to others, that is. My friends have always seemed surprised at my ability to just potter about without getting bored but I can always find something to do, especially something to make.
Last night, for the first ever time I watched part of Bake Off, never again. I got quite tense about these
poor people's things going all vino collapso and although I bake, I don't think I'll ever transform into a fancy baker.
Thinking of all those who are unwell or worried and I hope that you can have as good a day as possible.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning
I remember not long ago when getting up at daft o'clock still meant bright blue sky but no longer ...amazing how quickly winter is setting in. Off for a course in Manchester today and the state of the motorways at the moment means a lot of jams so heading in really early and will take a flagon of tea to keep me awake. Grief this post is even boring me this morningNo plans for tea apart from the fact I will have something at some point
AOD Im quite enjoying bake off and as a hopeless baker myself I can relate to some of the disasters it always looks far better in my head than it ever turns out on the plate as.
Hugs to TA as always. Have a good day if you can0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Well I am back to not sleeping which is very frustrating. I have quite a busy day planned as well so I foresee lots of cups of tea and coffee in my immediate future. Steve has just left for work and the kids are asleep still.
Tonight I am going to make savoury mince and dumplings with lots of veg on the side as I need to make sure I am getting my 5 a day again. I am constantly out of breath now so I need to get some weight off my tummy in particular. Lee is joining me in our quest for health and is a great support. I made the most of the hours I was awake last night and have several new recipes to try out this week.
My sister is coming around this morning for a cup of tea and chat. I haven't seen her for ages so it will be great to have a catch up. She has just sold her bungalow so is now looking for a new home. I think she wants to go back to having a house as she didn't like all being on the same level. She is willing to rent for a while though until the right house comes along as she doesn't want to have to move again.
Washing to do and clean washing to put away and I will ask Phoebe to run the hoover round before my sister arrives. Having 2 dogs and a cat makes it all a bit 'fluffy' so I would like it cleaned up. I need to sort my desk out too as there are piles of paper ready to slide down on me including a letter I received yesterday to say that my new mental health worker has gone on long term sick leave so here is the number for the crisis team! Not great and I miss my lovely cmht lady so so much.
Sending out hugs and cwtchs to all the worried and poorly, I hope things improve for you all xx
Take care xx0 -

I am off to London to the Astoria for afternoon tea courtesy of my aunt as she couldn't go she gave me the tickets then its off to the Ecco shoe shop for mum to get her winter shoes she is colour blind so there will be discussions over colours i am hoping she choses black:D.

Morning All
The storm hasn't started here yet, I was expecting to wake up to howling winds and driving rain but it's not happened .........yet!
I spent two hours in the garden after work, it was getting dark when I came in at 7, got some plants moved and emptied some pots although there's still quite a lot of colour in most of them, they can stay another couple of weeks. It is really quite a small garden, don't know how I can spend so long out there.
I enjoyed bake off, they are really very clever. The chocolate spheres were amazing (well, most of them).
Hoping all those with poorlies and worries are coping, my thoughts are with you all. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning, and thanks Holly, for starting off. It seems to be fine and calm out there this morning - so did yesterday till the wind got up.
Thanks for your good wishes Holly, it's so far so good for me - just going on and hoping for the best !! Batch cooking is a sensible idea, then you've got meals to hand when you need them.
AOD, I'm a good potterer as well,. A friend, who was still working when I retired used to say "but what do you do all day" - I just do "stuff".There's the general household jobs, reading, meeting friends, plus making things, as you say. Dressmaking, cardmaking, there's always something.
Nelski, yes, I 'm thinking of those sunny summer mornings as well. I loved them, and being able to get the washing dry, go out without a coat, the long light evenings, we have had a pretty good summer. Don't want to depress anyone but I dread the winter. Hope you don't get too caught up in traffic on your way into Manchester.
Dumpling, sorry to hear you aren't sleeping, it's the worst isn't it. Then dragging yourself round all day - mind, I find it's not so bad now I don't work, can just flop for a bit if I feel like it. Then, on some days, I lived on strong coffee all day. Not good.
Hope your new recipes turn out well.
When we had three cats, our house was definitely fluffy - I'm sure we breathed and ate cat hair, it's terrible stuff to remove, it seems to weave into the carpets. I found that a damp rubber glove on my hand rubbed over carpets and furnishings helped, don't know if you've tried it.
Hello Bella, nice to "see" you again. Definitely don't stop posting.
You sound busy at the moment, hope you enjoy afternoon tea.
We had planned to go out to Al*wick Gardens, we'll check the forecast. While it's lovely there, it's not much fun in heavy rain.
Hope everyone has a good day. Thinking of the TA's and other poorly people.
Take care folks.0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 gone to work also, DS2 now awake and eating brekkie.
Dinner last night was disjointed, DS1 and DS2 ate after the football match, they had fast food which they bought on their way home. DH had savoury rice and chicken. I had a diet ready meal that I had lurking in the bottom of the freezer, I didn't eat until after I'd been weighed, I lost a pound so have now lost half a stone, slow going but going in the right direction. We go away on Friday and my aim was to lose half a stone before holiday so have just managed it. I'll be careful on hols too.
Last day at work for me today, then have a busy day tomorrow getting sorted and packed.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
It's now raining though there were bouts of rolling thunder overnight. I'll wait to see if things get worse before deciding about going to collect my car later. I've got a class first thing so have until 11am to make a decision.
Last night I was in bed ultra early, best place to be during the lightning and thunder and then fell asleep early on too. The dark nights makes me want to be in bed...itself only get darker earlier so I feel like full on hibernating. :rotfl:
Right, must away to face my day. Hugs all round, I hope everyone is safe.
Happy Wednesday.0 -
Morning all
Its a bit blowy here and overcast I think we are due some rain later on and its meant to be a stormy day for most of us.
Chicken curry for dinner tonight with one of those curry making kits from aldi which I must say are very good.
I am having a fight with AO about my fridge freezer atm, it has been going on for about eight weeks now with me taking two days off for engineers visits only for them to no-show, the fridge is leaking water badly (even inside) and the food is going mouldy very quickly as its all getting wet !! Anyway they have promised me a call back from a manager today so we shall see.
Hugs to those in need I am thinking of you all xx
Have good days all xx0
