I started my dmp last week,

I sent holding letters to all the creditors on 14th Nov. Including my hsbc overdraft and hsbc credit
Card, neither of which have responded.

I set up a new bank account and changed all my direct debits and wages to the new account on 12th November.

I've just checked the hsbc account to see if they had put any response on, and my wages are showing as pending to go in tomorrow!!

I've sent up a transfer to move them, the account is just under the overdraft limit and doesn't look like it has any restrictions on it, has anyong got any idea if they are likly to offset my wages before the bank transfer goes through?
What method did you use to transfer / set up your new bank account? I know that there are sometimes issues when using the switching service instead of just opening a new basic account. It might be worth contacting your pay services dept. too to make sure they have the new bank account details.

I changed it all myself. I didn't want to use a switch service incase the overdraft caused problems. Work have an online system that I changed it on, and I phoned pay roll who said as long as it was changed on there before 20th of the month it would be fine, now I'm really worried about not getting any wages this month and the same happening again next pay day. I'm going to phone payroll again tomorrow.

I am concerned about sending a 'private and confidential' report from a consultant which contains very private and personal information, but, as you say, it is pertinent to the debt situation that we find ourselves in. I have caved and sent so much stuff that they dare not ask for anything else!
BC said that they would refund some interest and the 'default fee' of £12, so that's nice. I'm not sure if that will go into our bank or off the total that we owe? Any ideas - the letter was not very clear and nothing has showed up in the bank account yet!
Ho hum - let's keep going - soon be Christmas:xmastree:

They will just refund the account that was incorrectly charged... so it will just reduce the amount you owe BC - don't get your hopes up that you will see any funds credited to your bank account. It all helps though as it chips away at the debt balance.

  • Advice please...
I have made my offers of payment & most have been accepted, well for 2 or 3 months & then to be reviewed. Do I make the payments or wait to be defaulted?
Also they want payment in December, can I tell them I want to start in January?
Sorry starting to think self managed wasn't a good idea.

Self managed is fine. You just need to realise you are in control.

Write and thank them for their letters and advise that your payments will start xx/xx/2019. If you need a bit longer than January, just let them know. For example, you could write and say that you will pay token payments of £1 per month between Jan and March and from April you will pay £xx.xx. This shows your commitment to paying your debts.

Me.... I would just say I am not paying until April. In that time they will default you (well most will, but Creation Finance - if you have them - seem to be difficult about issuing defaults). But I do realise for people new to DMPland that this can feel difficult to do - so most take the option of token payments for a while.

January’s advice is good, it’s your arrangement, you call the shots, don’t fall at the first hurdle, you tell them how it’s going to be, not the other way around.

Self management is the logical choice for people who like to remain in control of their own financial matters.

I posted yesterday worried about my wages going into my old account. I have been able to move them to my new account so that is good. Just need to contact payroll (again) to stop the same happening next month.

Other good news is have had a letter from tesco bank saying they will default my account in 28 days and have accepted my dmp to be reviewed in 6 months. Barclaycard have frouen interest for 30 days while they wait for the dmp ( which has been sent bit I assume each bank process them in a different way).
  • :wave:Welcome to all the new posters. You've addressed your debts and taken control, the rest of your life starts now:j. Everyone here is always happy to help with any queries or problems that you may have on your journey through DMPland. Just ask:beer:

My own update isn't particularly good. As a result of my F&F offers, one creditor has already settled (all negotiated via the phone in this case):j. I'm really happy with the discount I was given and the whole process:D. I wrote to the others with offers and one has refused my offer and I've refused their counter one so it will be a case of waiting a bit longer until they offer me something better. Still waiting to hear anything at all from the other 2, no response whatsoever:mad:. Why do these people take so long?
  • Hi all, Quick update - I went self managed a few months ago with token payments, made offers to all and yesterday marks the first payment to them all on plan :)
Feels like a massive milestone to me, finally got payments agreed, payments set up and made the first one. There is a huge way to go yet but feeling positive about it all
I have a couple that didn't reply, that I'm going to pay anyway, and one that seemingly has gone and had my post returned - so waiting for contact from whoever took them over
Just wanted to share.... hope you are all ok
    xx

    It's 'Christmas 'innit.
I don't expect to see any action for the next few weeks - all the big institutions are already in holiday mode. Have you tried to get HMRC on the phone recently??!!
I find that by adopting the same 'laid back' attitude as my creditors makes life so much more bearable!
Thanks for your continued support and updates.
