  • Just a quick question.... in my initial letter to very and Littlewoods explaining I was in difficulty and would be contacting them with an offer of payment in due course I also asked to only be contacted via letter or email... they have been continually ringing my house phone which is not great as my husband is not aware of my situation.... has anyone had any luck with just getting them to contact via post or email? I have emailed today again asking to only do this and have removed my home phone number from my online account but not sure this will work? Thanks

If you cannot somehow block the number from your house phone, then the best way to get them to stop is to speak with them next time they call and tell them to stop.  You should say that if they refuse to remove your home number you will take the matter up with the ICO and that should do the trick.  If it doesn't then do follow up with a complaint to the ICO.

Hi everyone. I’ve been on a Debt management plan with Stepchange for over 3 years and I’m fairly happy with how things are going. I just wanted to ask - I’ve been having lots of letters from Intrum offering to write off a percentage on various debts that I have with them if I pay a lump some up front, some are 20%, 30% and even one was 50%. I am not in a position to take up these offers at the moment. Just wondering whether anyone has had similar offers and whether anyone has actually taken up such an offer? Is there anything I should be aware of if considering doing this? I feel like this might be “too good to be true” or am I being paranoid!  :D
    Thanks for reading!

It is a great offer. I offered Intrum a settlement figure and they said they would only give me a 5% discount. I presume you are paying a small payment ?

Yes I’m paying a small payment at the moment. Currently the DMP projects that I’ll be debt free by 2032. However my salary will hopefully increase significantly over the next few years so I’m hoping to be debt free within approx 5 years. There will be some opportunity for well paid overtime in my new job so my thoughts are to increase my DMP payment based on my basic salary and save any overtime money I get towards taking up one of these offers. Does that sound a decent plan?

I’d keep paying the small amount otherwise they won’t give you the offers then any extra save for the settlement offer and get the money off your debts, they will drop off your credit file wether you pay them in full or not 6 years from the default. Good luck, I with I had paid small amounts from the beginning

That is really helpful. Thank you for your advice. I had no idea that I was getting these offers because I’m paying such a small amount so that is really useful to know.

No problem. Can I ask you how long after you started making small payments did they send you these offers?
  • So I’m just checking in really as this forum feels a bit like my safe place! After the initial period of having accounts on hold I’m now starting to hear a bit more from my creditors.... I’m doing my best to stick to my plan of not paying anything until they default me even though it is hard as part of me wants to get on with the DMP so I feel like I’m back paying what I owe BUT I know whilst I’m waiting for the defaults I’m saving my EF and the sooner the default comes the sooner the 6 year clock will start ticking!!! Reading through these posts I’ve today sent off CCA letters to all creditors... some are relatively new so not holding out much hope but my Very, Littlewoods, capital one and Vanquis accounts are all over 10 years old so hoping they may come back unenforceable.... then I will
be back on here to basically say... ermm what do I do now!!! 😂😂😂
Anyway two months after sending initial letters I’m starting to have less and less sleepless nights.... the worry is still there that hubby will find out but feel
like I’m finally admitting to my mess and taking a step forward! Thanks for listening!!! Xxx

You are doing in perfectly. I am 27k down and my biggest regret is not letting all my accounts default. I just had it in my head I must pay. Now I am in a much worse situation and my credit file will be far worse off and I want a mortgage in the future. Well done and keep it up don’t go with your instinct like I did and pay yet not matter the letters!
