Ive just set up DMP with Payplan, and opened up an Essential Bank Account with Virgin Money.
Payplan recommended a Partial Switch, how can i find out all my DDs? I have contacted Natwest, my current bank, but they are not very helpful, any advise? Thanks

Adding to sourcrates suggestions - what about bank statements, that will list your monthly outgoings and will include any direct debits. If you have any debts with your current bank account that you intend to include it in your DMP, then I suggest you don't do anything that might alert them to that fact until you've manually switched all your priority payments (and income) to your new bank account. Note to 'manually switch' - don't use any form of switching service.

Please see below Response from Wescott regarding Halifax account settlement. Should except this a full and final settlement? .........

If you are happy with this amount as a settlement figure, then yes. The statement provided gives you the assurance you need about them not selling the remaining debt on - just make sure you keep hold of it.

Hi all, just after a bit of advice. I'm on a DMP and have a Flex Direct account with Nationwide (I moved over to them at the start of the DMP). This isn't the basic account, I think my credit rating must still have been OK enough to get the standard current account when I moved to them.

I want to open a children's savings account with them, but was wondering if anyone knows whether they'd do a credit check on me at this point? I don't want to rock the boat unnecessarily (also you have to go in branch to do it and I don't want the embarrassment if it gets refused for any reason!)

    Thanks.
Any new account will be credit checked yes.

  • Thank you all for your replies. I'm hoping to clear all my debts today just over the last couple of weeks I've tried to get up to date balances and settlement amounts.
I received a letter from Intrum yesterday, I owe them £640 and they written to say they invite make to make an offer of repayment. Can I ask for advice of how to deal with them?

    Hi,

This is a very common issue DMP providers have to deal with, its no big deal.

Contact your DMP provider, (hopefully a free one) and ask them to add the debts to the arrangement.
As long as its not a reccuring theme, they won`t bite.

Is there ever a point where the DMP debts can be written off? I have had this for 4 years and can't see myself ever having the funds to pay.

Well that question has so many variables, it depends on the individuals circumstances/health/age/enforcibility of the debt, if a debt is valid and owed, then its legally payable.

Debts are not normally written off unless there are extenuating circumstances, then it moves to been able to prove whatever reason your giving them is valid, if your a homeowner, your stuck with a DMP, if not, other, quicker solutions are available.

    Morning all,

I am after some advice, I need to build up an emergency fund, so I have written to my creditors and LCS have come back to me with this response.

The issue we will face with this Miss Glew is that the lowest payment plan we are allowed to accept is £5 per month, for anything less than that amount we would need for you to complete an Income and expenditure assessment.
If the IE assessment shows you cannot afford the £5 per month, we would then be able to refer this file back over to likely loans for them to set a plan with you directly.
Please let me know which option you are able to take?

My question is this I'm not saying I can't afford the £5 a month, all I'm asking for is a 6 month payment break to build up my EF so how do I respond back to them?

    Thank you

    Becky

  • I've been reading this thread since Monday now and I'm really impressed by the support and the stories and seeing this has made me sign up and post myself.

I have my DMP starting on Friday, I originally went through all the income/debt and budget stuff 3 months ago but was slightly humiliated and angry at myself for needing this so tried to manage my debt myself but it proved impossible and I was stupid enough to take out yet another payday loan to try and get myself back on track.

At the end of July I realised I was in way over my head and I've just been getting steadily more suffocated by debt over the past 12 months. It doesn't help that I've suffered from severe mental health issues since a young age and I realised that I was getting dangerously close to causing myself some kind of injury or going on a downward spiral and hitting bottom. So I decide to suck up my pride and get help managing my debt, just like I've had to when it comes to my mental health.

Unfortunately, I came across or really understood StepChange after I already signed up to a paid DMP and I fully intend to move to SC at some point because I understand why it's better to use than a paid one but in honesty it took so much effort and strength to even get to this point that the anxiety surrounding moving the DMP is just too much for me for the next couple of months.

I have however managed to channel my energy into, changing my bank account and speaking to a couple of my CC companies to tell them I'm in a DMP and getting my salary into the new account and writing up my own spreadsheet (during working hours, ssh) to track all my monies coming in and out and have obsessively gone through all the articles on MSE and pages of this thread to try and change my choices and habits, so I'm starting to feel more capable and feel like I finally will get some breathing space and I know people might think if I can do all that I can change to SC but the thought of that last step is freaking me out at the minute.

Anyway the point of my post is to say THANKS to everyone's story that I've read over the past 3 days, it's been inspiring, eye opening and I hope to be able to help others like this in the future too and be a regular poster in this community
