    Hey,

I was wondering if anyone had advice or recommendations (or success stories!) on getting a creditor to back-date a default date on my credit file.

I notified my creditors of my financial issues and informed them I would be going on a DMP back in July. Although they have all defaulted now I would prefer if they could backdate the defaults to July, or even August as most of them are either December or January.

    TIA
  • I have received a very strange letter today regarding my Natwest account which is currently being managed by Wescot.

    The letter states:

'Our records show that you have elected to pay the outstanding amount owing to our client by standing order. We can confirm that the account is now closed - fully paid'

This is our biggest debt  and there is no way we could afford to clear it via standing order!!

Just wondering what I should do regarding this? Maybe we have a mystery debt buster!! Any advice greatly appreciated :)

If it were me, I would ask them for a printed statement. You can check the numbers in there (before cracking open the champagne)

........Just yet another query which isn't totally a DMP issue:o. The debt in dispute was part of my DMP and I hope anyone who has had similar problems, albeit with different creditors, may be able to offer some help. I am going round in circles and can see no way out:eek:...........

Hey CBC - have you considered taking this to the FOS? One or the other is responsible and because they are playing games, it's worth a shot. As we know, that debt should be registered with a default within 3 - 6 months of its default, but it doesn't alway work that way and then we (DMPers) need to fight our own corner. Get's my back up that others who completely walk away don't have to up with this sh*t.

You can always ask - but I doubt you'll have much success. There is ICO guidance that states that if you fall into arrears a default may be recorded to show the relationship has broken down -this may occur when you are 3 months in arrears, and normally by the time you are 6 months in arrears. Note these are 'guidelines' and not 'legislative policy' so a creditor does not have to default you at all -and some don't (as a number of folks on here can testify to).

If yours were defaulted in Dec and Jan and your DMP started in July, then they have all effectively followed the guidelines by defaulting you within that 6 month period.

Received a letter from PRA this morning asking me to move to CPA payments. No. I have told them it will be coming out as a Standing Order every month. It's already set up which they acknowledged in the letter.

Maybe it's an automatic letter but I'm not taking them up on their offer, thank you.

Thank you both for your replies. At least I could dream that £11,000 had been miraculously cleared from our debts for a lovely few hours!!! :p

Puzz - that makes complete sense as PRA have been trying to phone me every day for the past 4 days! I already have a debt with them - I have emailed them and told them I have previously requested no communication by phone and that they can either email or write to me. I have cancelled the Wescot standing order and will await written correspondence from PRA before setting up a standing order for this debt to them :)
