Claiming for holiday sickness

Did your husband also require a separate doctor's visit, and did you complete the same paperwork again ?
Did the doctor diagnose Norovirus and/or Colitis ?
My husband wasn’t as ill as I was, so the doctor was only called for me. I think my husband took a photo of the forms, but I have paperwork from the doctor and it says on there what I had, what he gave me. He did say the virus caused the colitis.
I also wrote on Trip Advisor at the time. The hotel replied, but never followed through on their advice.
Timing meant it had to be either on the plane or hotel, not the airport (it was too late). I did hope to sit by or see the lady who sat by me to ask if she’d been ill, but of course we never saw her.0 -
Hi Ellie51
I think Elsien meant are there any other reports from others on Trip Advisor saying they were ill at the same time ? normally if there is an outbreak of something people but up bad reviews on review sites so if you look back at reviews for the time you were there you may find lots of sickness reviews in which case you probably have a claim.
If on the other hand there are no bad reviews then hard as it seems you will stand no chance as it cannot be proved to be anything related to the hotel / holiday company.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
I would never go on an organised tour company holiday after reading about all of these stories. 30 countries backpacking, camping and eating street food over 4 years and only got sick once, in Turkmenistan.0

Therefore, as there was no professional medical diagnosis of your husband's illness, how can you determine it was Norovirus ? The symptoms can be very similar to other forms of sickness.
Did any other guests report on Trip Advisor about having the same problems ?0 -

I've had countless package holidays and cruises since I first went to Spain with my parents 60 years ago, and only ill once, Tunisia in 1980.0 -

If it could have been on the plane then it must also have been possible to be picked up at the either airport on the outward journey unless you got through without touching anything.
Sorry your trip was ruined but this looks like pure bad luck.0 -

I know for sure it was not at the airport because I did not start being ill until we’d left the airport after the max incubation period if 48 hours, but because of the length of the flight it could have been on the plane. I worked that bit out whilst lying in the room for 10 days.0 -

This is the first time I’ve been ill on holiday and I’ve camped, been on package holidays and backpacked all over the world too, often with my small son in tow. I was just unlucky0 -
If I was a judge sat in court (which clearly, I'm not), I would be asking myself how can a hotel be liable for a single customer who is ill with norovirus [your husband was never formally diagnosed, and I would even question your diagnosis without samples having been tested], which is completely outside of the control of the hotel. It is distinctly different from food poisoning, which is within the hotel's control to prevent. Consequently, I would be rejecting any claim made on that basis.
Note, if there had been a general outbreak at the hotel, further factors may be taken in to consideration, but this does not appear to be the case here.0
