This has made me so sad. I can understand why your older boys are worried, it breaks my heart really. All I can keep stressing though is that both your boys and your husband should not confront these people. I know your husband wants to protect you, but his place to protect you is by your side. He can't protect his family if he gets really hurt can he?

The same goes for your sons, if they come into contact with anyone behaving like this they need to get themselves out of the situation as fast as they can. Running away isn't being a coward, nor is staying inside the house. We've all read awful stories of people being seriously hurt by standing up for what's right, but, really the right thing to do is force the law of this country to protect your right to live peacefully and safely.

These "people" have been getting away with this for too long.

Amani, just a thought - do you have a digital camera? Can you take little videos of what they're doing and shouting? It would help both with recognition and with proof.

If your older boys recognise a couple of themwould they be willing to tell the police? Also let the schools know if they are still going in case of any bullying

My heart goes out to you. my partner and i are a mixed race couple, my partner is indian. We experiance prejudice on a regular basis, people like this are worthless and ignorant, this however does not change how painful and frightening things like this are. I have never been through anything as terrible as this but i live in fear of it. I am proud to have both our cultures in our lives and cant even understand why people can behave in this way. our thoughts are with you and your family. At least you know you will never face that here, where your friends are.

i hope that my last post didnt make it sound like i think everyone out there is racist, its just you dont notice all the thousands of normal people that dont behave this way, you only notice the odd people that do pass there judgment.

These youths are an ignorant minority. They don't only target people on a racial basis but anyone who is different to them. They are all cowards and can only operate in gangs. Get them as individuals and they skulk away.
Don't let the matter drop. Call the police and try to get evidence identifying this scum so that they can be prosecuted.

I would also start keeping a record of all events, whether its a small incident or large. if you can write names of the perpetrators at the time write them, write the time the date and what happened.

Hello, amani, so sorry to hear of your trouble.
If the youths re-appear tonight get straight onto the police (don't wait for them to start throwing things!) and emphasize how threatened you and your children feel - make sure you tell them if they are carrying any weapons you can see (bricks, batons,whatever). I think it is (unfortunately) a mistake to confront the youths in this situation - as another poster said, in a group they seem to lose all fear/respect which they may have individually, and it's not worth the risk to your safety.

Thank you so so much for all your support. The sun is going down and i feel sick to my stomach of them returning after dark. I have set up a camara ready to record anything. I wish I had thought of that last night! I will call the police staight away if they return and I have also told my husband that he should stay inside the house.

IA My son told the police of the 2 that he recognized and they wrote down thier names. I will also be phoning the school tomorrow as the 2 boys attend his school.
