This is not DFW but I need some support. My hubby had an argument with 5 youths yesterday afternoon (they had said some racist comments to him and he challenged them).

    AMANI XXX

I am not qualified to offer any real advice, other than to say you should call the police. There is no obvious solution other than let the police deal with it or possibly move home?. There will be other people on this site who will come along and offer some excellent advice.

It does sadden me that parents cannot seem to bring up their children to understand right from wrong.

    Good luck

Oh Amani, that's awful. I'm so so sorry you've been through that. The police have to do something, your husband has been attacked, your property has been damaged and you are frightened. This is disgusting and no one should ever go through it. You need to make sure that the police take this seriously, they should take descriptions and do some policing to find out who these thugs are, you need protection, for yours and your childrens sake.

Thank god your husband is ok. If I could get my hands on these people... it wouldn't be pretty.

If they do come back tonight see it as a good thing, keep yourselves inside away from windows. Do NOT let your husband go outside to them, no matter how much he wants to. Phone the police and let them catch the thugs red handed. But, please keep safe, all of you.

I know yuo've said the police won't be able to do anything, but I really ddo think you should contact them, just to get the hate crime registered and also so that if they do come back, the police may well be quicker in responding. It si also one way of feeling stronger that you are doing something about these thugs. i can relate completely to young men being like this - I have been completely shocked since moving up north from london at the ignorant attitudes about Muslim people and also people from other countries.

I do hope you are all ok - are the kids shaken as well? I really believe it is worth contacting the police - shows teh kids that there are people on your side too.

    Massive hugs.

Will be thinking of you tonight

Oh that's awful. I'm so sorry that you and your family had to go through that, I hope you're all ok.
Are you a Council tenant by any chance? If so you should report what has happened to them too.
  • Oh Amani, I'm so sorry to hear this. I really ditto what the others are saying - call the police - call them again and again till they do something.

If they come back tonight call the police straight away and demand that they come round - they can't just leave you on your own!! Also please don't let your hubby go outside - all of you stay inside and wait for the police to come.

I'll say a prayer for you all and will be thinking of you.

  • I am so sorry to hear what has happened. Is there a local police liason officer/community officer you could talk to? Did you make sure that the incident got logged by the police? That way if there is any more trouble (hopefully there will not be) the police will be aware of previous problems. Thinking of practical things to do for tonight - make sure that your toddlers beds are as far away from the windows as possible. If you have to move their beds turn it into a game so they don't pick up on your worried vibes. Could you put heavier curtains or a second pair of curtains up on the window as well? Then if the window does break the glass should stay at the window sill. If they do turn up get straight on the phone to the police - even if they are just hanging around. With what happened last night the police should be able to move them away. More difficult might be keeping your husband from going outside again! He really needs to leave this one to the police I think - it is not worth him getting hurt.
Finally as far as your Hijab goes it is them that have the problem with it. You wearing it as part of your faith is entirely up to you! It is such a shame that someone choosing to wear a simple piece of cloth on their head can lead to so much controversy! Big hugs xxx

The children are fine the older boys are a bit worried though. The police did turn up after just 10 mins last night and told me to ring them again if they boys returned. They were only here 5mins though and then phoned me later with a crime number and said they had let the local police know what had happened. We are not council tennants we own the house.
