How does Hertz avoid the 14 days money back law?

About to book a hertz car and I notice that they no longer give a free refund if you change your mind.

I thought under UK law you have 14 days to change your mind when purchasing online?

Hertz now charge £30 to cancel the booking, even within 5 minutes!

It previously gave a 7 day free cancellation period.

Is this legal?

How much is the cancellation fee for a prepaid booking?
For reservations placed before 30 April 2018 midnight, for pick-up at any time:

A full refund of the prepaid amount will be issued if the reservation is cancelled within 7 days from the date of booking.

Cancellations made more than 7 days after the date of booking will incur a cancellation fee of: 45EUR/30GBP/65CHF/300SEK/300NOK/450ZAR/300DKK/200AED/200SAR/20KWD.

For reservations placed after 30 April 2018 midnight, for pick up at any time:

A full refund of the prepaid amount will be issued if the reservation is cancelled no later than midnight two days before the date of your scheduled pick-up.

Cancellations made later than midnight two days before the date of your scheduled pick-up will incur a cancellation fee of: 45EUR/30GBP/65CHF/300SEK/300NOK/450ZAR/300DKK/200AED/200SAR/20KWD.


No Show/Lost Rentals will incur a cancellation fee of: 95EUR/70GBP/140CHF/750SEK/750NOK/1,050ZAR/700DKK/450AED/450SAR/45KWD

A refund of any remaining amount will be made to the account originally billed & will appear on the account balance within 5 to 10 working days.

b. by calling the Internet Helpdesk



2. A full refund of the prepaid reservation will be made:



(For reservations placed before 30 April 2018 midnight, for pick-up at any time)
a. If the cancellation is made within 7 days of the time the reservation was placed;
b. Less an administration charge as per table below if the cancellation is made after 7 days of the time the reservation was placed;



(For reservations placed after 30 April 2018 midnight, for pick up any time)

a. If the cancellation is made no later than midnight two days before the date of your scheduled pick-up;

b. Less an administrative charge of EUR 45.00, GBP 30.00, CHF 65.00, SEK 300.00, NOK 300.00, ZAR 450.00, DKK 300.00, AED 200.00, SAR 200.00, KWD 20.00, RUB 1,800.00, OMR 25.00, QAR 200.00, BHD 25.00, USD 60.00, PLN 200.00 if the cancellation is made after this time.



3. Refunds will be made to the credit card that the original booking was madeon.

So a full refund as long as you process it at least two days before pick-up time.

That means that the conditions have improved considerably.

Before you had seven days. But now you have up to two days before pick-up time.So it could be that you have up to twelve months to cancel.

So, much better. Wouldn't you agree?
