humming noise when lights are on

Had some downlights fitted recently but when there switched on there is a humming noise coming from the light switch & also the consumer (spelling) box, is it anything to worry about if it is what to do about it. Cannot contact electrician who fitted them he on holiday at mo.

I was told by a wholesale electrical outlet that dimmers could not be used on GU10`s.
