BT tricked me into a new contract

Options
I phoned BT few months ago and complained about my high bill. I said I'm not happy with how much I'm paying and would be interested in leaving BT. Adviser over the phone offered me a discount for next few months to which I agreed. I recently found out that my bill went up again and after calling them I found out that last time I spoke to them they have singed me up into a new 18-months contract (the so called 'discount' was suppose to be part of the new contract) so now I would have to pay a fine if I wanted to leave them. My bill with BT is high again and I ended up worse off then in the beginning. I feel I was misled by BT... is there anything I can do or complain to them about to get out of that contract or is this the dead end?

  • Yes go to the BT website and look for the Complaints Procedure. And follow that.

How are they saying that consent to the new contract was obtained? If it was verbally, during the course of your call to their call centre, you can ask them to retrieve the recording of the call. That should hopefully resolve the issue.

If you aren't getting anywhere, use the free https://www.resolver.co.uk/ tool. In my experience, it's much easier and quicker than going through the standard complaints process within a company as it's more likely to get seen by someone who can help straight away.
