New Computer

Options
My computer wont boot.

It just shows a boot screen, sometimes the name of the motherboard other times a blue screen with gigabyte UEFI BIOS along the top then goes off then comes on again.

I did one time get a message that the bios was corrupt after removing the BIOS battery then replacing it.

I put the hard drive in an old computer (wife's) which has the same motherboard and swapped the graphics card and memory and processor.

The old computer now works better than it did before but my computer still does not work with swapping all the parts so conclusion, motherboard is toast.

So that was going to be it and my wife could use an old laptop that I have.

That didn't go down well so I have to buy a new computer. I was going to buy the parts separately and build one but I'm getting to old for all this so buying new it is.

If I buy a Core i7 8700 Coffee Lake 8th Gen PC 8GB DDR4 1TB Win 10 Pro will the built in graphics be better than my i3 computer with a AMD Radeon HD 6670 or should I also buy a graphics card?

I do some video editing but my present setup is suitable.

How about re-flashing the bios, since you think it is corrupt ?

If it's just the BIOS settings that have become corrupted, you could try booting into the BIOS and choosing the "reset to factory defaults" (or similarly named option).

I've occasionally had problems when the BIOS settings go haywire and suddenly try to use incompatible overclocking options.

so what model of motherboard do you have?

    which steps have you done?

Did you know that you can buy replacement bios sometimes pre-flashed with the latest version firmware? can be a bit of a problem if soldered, but if on a socket :)

Many desktop Bioses have a CLEAR, or CLR_CMOS, or CLR jumper. you will usually either have to remove the jumper, or move it one position over and power on - best look in the manual for that specific model and instruction,

Normally external video cards are always better than integrated ones (unless they are 5-6 years apart).

In regards to video editing, CPU and RAM play a bigger role than graphics cards, so if I had to spend the money, I would spend it on processor and memory (and obviously a SSD drive, otherwise your HDD will slow down the whole system considerably).

Also, 8GB RAM is on the limit for video editing, I would get 16GB.
  • Most modern motherboards will have some way to reflash a corrupt BIOS via USB, especially Gigabyte boards.

    What's the motherboard model number?

Also, unless you're editing really low res video, 1TB is going to fill up really quickly.

I have decided to build my wife a new computer and keep using the one I scavenged from the two.

Suggestions for a motherboard and processor that I could replace my knackered Gigabyte GA-H61M-S2PV and AMD Radeon HD 6670 graphics card with that doesn't need a separate graphics card?

the manual for a bios reset is here and should point you to page 18
    https://www.manualslib.com/manual/437980/Gigabyte-Ga-H61m-S2pv.html?page=18#manual

on page 21 there is the bios section and I would start with load fail-safe defaults as the choice to first begin with. At the bottom of the page the F11 and F12 comments may also be useful.

Also if the above manual looks a bit odd, here is possibly another version of the same thing, but different, possibly revision numbers, but boyh have different bioses :(https://www.manualslib.com/manual/656171/Gigabyte-Ga-H61m-S2pv.html?page=20#manual
