Normal steam iron in BA hand luggage

Security can certainly be inconsistent. I once flew by accident with a letter opener (I had it in my rucksack but forgot it was there) on New Year's Eve. I was shocked when the LHR security asked why I had a knife in my bag! They refered it to a senior guy who said normally they wouldn't allow it, but as it was New Year's he'd be nice and let me keep it. I think he was joking...
Another time I had an asthma inhaler and it was inspected as if it was something very suspicious.
It depends on how much experience the guy looking at the screen has I think.0 -
I ended up not taking the Moka Pot or iron in hand luggage. I did take however a furniture-moving dolly - a plank of wood with 4 castors on it!0

For the price of a new iron, I honestly wouldn’t bother worrying about it. Leave the thing and buy a new one back home.
Not very money saving I know, but if it is taken off you at the airport, you will have to replace it regardless.0 -
