Can't log in to my Home Hub 5!

I'm afraid I won't be able to help much with that, as it depends on the router you are using. Normally, when you connect a drive or a printer to the USB port of a router, you will see that drive as a shared unit in the network discovery in Windows. If you log on to the Virgin router, it will probably give you more details and options (that port could be disabled by default, so you may need to enable it first).

Since the IP address on the BT Hub was still the old one, I would double check that the DHCP is actually disabled. If you have two DHCP providers on the same network, you won't easily notice it because you normally get the IP address from the server that replies first to the device's request.

OK, thanks ever so much for your help this afternoon. At least I have some options now. I have found a BT support forum with some similar questions about network drives so I will try and follow those when I get a chance.

Also, in regards to the USB drive, you will need to connect it to the Virgin router, not the BT one, otherwise you won't be able to access it.

    Just spotted this line!

Not possible I'm afraid as the Virgin router doesn't have a USB port. Hence the reason for wanting to plug it into the BT HH5.

Ok, in that case I think you will need to change the IP on the hub to make it part of the same network.

    I suspect so.

I will probably have to leave this until the weekend due to other commitments and not wanting to risk having no working WiFi (how we all come to depend on it!!).

I will screenshot the BT settings pages before changing anything and try not to bother you further but...........

    ;)

Glad to help if I can.
  • Similarly to you I set up a BT HH3 to do the same job.
    I followed instructions at http://unixetc.co.uk/2014/03/04/reuse-a-spare-bt-home-hub-as-a-wireless-access-point/

Funnily enough I also recently had trouble loging in to the bt hub on the address I had set but also found it on 192.168.1.254 - my main EE router network is 192.168.1.x

Plugging in a usb memory stick (fat 32) into bt hub is recognised according to the home page but not seen by the EErouter.
Plugging the dame stick into the EE router is then recognised by the EE router......but I have not yet worked out how to share it (it is not seen on win 10 explorer under 'network'.

I guess this just (initially) suggests that plug into the bt router may not appear on the EE (or your Virgin) network......but would love to know how to do it!
