Yeah it definitely is a wake-up call, and I'll have no more chances after this so I can't mess up again, and I won't. It has scared me enough to pick up my act.0

I can't believe this went on for 4 pages after my gambling experience!
I note that you said yesterday (I think, lots of pages!) "I'm going to attend an AA meeting tonight"

How was it?
I've a friend whos a heavy smoker. Had a heart attack when he was 42. Nearly died. Was told it was because of his smoking and drinking. Evangelised it was a "wake up call" for him. Made all the noises for a few days. Then he heard it would be a big shock to the system to stop smoking suddenly, so he "just had a few a day", so then the few became a few more, and he still smokes....
I've two friends who are in the motor trade. They arent making any money. They really need to shut down and get jobs, however they eke out a living and try to convince themselves that good times are just around the corner. Then they get their accounts done up at their year end and its in black and white that they're losing money. So this becomes their "wake up call" and thats all each of them says for a week or two. Then they fall back in to old habits and it goes on....
"Wake up call" is hugely over-used to the point of it actually makes me cringe, BUT i'd love the O/P to be the one who proves me wrong....;)0 -
I suspect, however, that you really have friends! Whereas the chances of the OP actually existing are negligible...0

Two apt examples.
To change the pattern actually requires a complete overhaul of your personality. Very very tough, especially if doing it on your own!0
