Integrated fridge freezer bought from A.O.com not fit for purpose

Hi, I bought a Leisure PBC273 Integrated fridge freezer from AO.com on July 25 2018 for £379.
Unfortunately it has taken a while to get my kitchen installed and i've had to use the fridge freezer before it was installed
When my fitter eventually came round to fitting it, he realised that the brackets would not be compatible with my handleless kitchen cupboards door fronts, as at the top on the freezer door there is a built in J handle which is very narrow, where the bracket is supposed to screw in, and the screws came through. The fridge door is not much better as the bracket only just fixes to the door as there is a wedge cut out so you can get your fingers underneath to open the door
I have contacted AO via telephone and Twitter and they said because the item has been used it has to be dumped so they would only give me a 70% refund.
My argument is that they didn't specify in the product description that it wouldn't be compatible with a handleless kitchen.
They also said this via twitter and I quote "We do try and provide as much information as we can, but we do expect customers to do their own research for specific requirements"
I'm going to have to buy a more expensive integrated fridge freezer from AO anyway, one that has a sliding door bracket, I think is more suitable.
I can't post any images as the forum won't allow it!
Any help would be most appreciated.

Seems to me that you should have made sure it was suitable either before ordering or definitely before using.
getting £266 refund sounds good to me,
in the grand scheme of things I suspect you have spent thousands on a new kitchen so losing £114 would be a tiny percentage of the overall cost0 -

I also didn't have a option not using the Fridge freezer before it was installed as I live in a very small flat and the old fridge and freezer went on the day I received the new appliance0 -
The problem is that you chose a door on door integrated fridge freezer and what you bought is perfect for 99.9% of standerd kitchen doors
A kitchen designer with any sense should have informed you that you needed a slider door fixing model for handless doors
Personally id sell the fridge freezer privately and get a bit more for it0 -
No I didn't ask, I bought it online under the heading of Integrated appliances. They don't know the difference themselves. AO have told me to speak to Beko, but when I've tried to call I get put on hold for 30 minutes or more so give up
So you didnt know whether it would be suitable or not - or perhaps even that there was a difference - but its AO's fault for not explaining that it might not fit your particular kitchen door type?
It sounds like you as the customer didnt do your homework first, before purchasing.
Sorry, but they're giving you a decent part refund for something thats really not their fault.0 -
AO sell appliances they wont know of every single door fitment that there is available.
Buy the sliding door model and i could probably find you some doors that wont be compatible with that model also.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Does nobody take ownership these days for their own mistakes?0
