Lost Day Of Work Due To Noisy Roadworks

Hi all,
I work from home as a web developer and have an office at the end of the garden. For the past weeks there's been roadworks around the local area but yesterday they were right outside my house (and might be outside again today).
There was some kind of extraction lorry that was going from about 9am until 4pm non-stop that was so loud it was unbearable. I had to cancel a load of phonecalls with clients I had scheduled and in the end had to just stop work because I couldn't even hear myself think. Even with headphones on I could still hear (and feel it).
Now, I've technically lost a day of work so is there anyway to get some kind of compensation for this lost day's pay? If I had of received notice I could've made alternative plans / found somewhere else to work / rearranged calls etc but we heard nothing.
Any advice / help would be appreciated? It's only 7:40am at the moment but if this goes on again today that i'll be 2 days lost work and who knows how long it will go on for.
Thanks

No. If it starts this morning, pack your laptop and phone and go to a cafe or whatnot.freelancer666 wrote: »Hi all,

I sincerely hope not.
If everyone who was inconvenienced by roadworks was eligible for compensation the cost would be astronomical, paid for of course by increased taxes as most roadworks are ultimately funded by the state.0 -
As above, grow up and stop whinging.
If one day of load noise is the worse thing you will experience in your working life you will be very lucky. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -
You had warningvyou said yourself they started further down the road surely it doesnt take a genius to consider they would be moving down to your property at some point.0

We don't get that sort of warning when they're doing noisy work on neighbouring buildings at the university so as frustrating as it is I think you'll just have to chalk it up. Can you find another space to work from today? Library, cafes etc0
-
Did you not have prior notice of the works ?
Surely there's alternatives eg a quiet cafe, do you have a friend who would let you use they're house for the period you need ?0 -
And if your neighbor lost a days work because they couldn't get to work because road works hadn't taken place would they be able to claim compensation?Little One born 19/12/18

I think everyone is being a bit harsh here. If it's anything like my town, the disruption caused by incompetent councilors trying to get rid of their budgets all at once causing utter choas and distruction, is something I would hope to at least call them to task about. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
