That’s because it was issued before the 10th of September0 -
Stealth......A warning would have been nice.
So now a renewal passport will be only valid for 'up to 10 years'.
Quite a few countries require 6 months remaining validity on a Passport as part of their Entry Requirements. That would/could mean applying for a new Passport 9 months before travelling, thus losing almost 10%.0 -
Annoying, and I have still to see anything officially about this, but someone posted on the other thread that this was to bring us into line with international regulations.
The cost of the passport covers the cost of processing the application and issuing the secure document. It's not a tax. No one is benefiting from this, but it seems the change may have been necessary.
It's worth noting that the cost of a UK passport fell from £77.50 to £72.50 in 2012. The current on line price of £75.50 is still less than it was six years ago.0 -

That's interesting.
I pmd MSE Callum at 07:38 this morning to flag up the 2 posts discussing this and suggested it may be an idea to put something out to a wider audience.
I specifically mentioned shaun from Africa's archive find (post #5).
I did think MSE would have started a thread on the forum as not everyone visits the main site regularly. I don't.
The bit about "Bizarrely, the Home Office refused today to confirm that any change has taken place - so we don't yet have full details of the changes and if there any exceptions to the new rule. It's understood an official announcement is planned later this week." is very interesting.0 -
Thanks, katejo.

There is already an entry by MSE on this forum. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5894236/revealed-passport-applicants-given-shorter-renewals-after-stealth-rule-change-mse-news
OK.
So it was only posted 75 minutes before my post.
My bad for missing it.0 -

Divide the cost of the passport by 10, and use it regularly then it's a bargain.
Also a nice keepsake, especially the photo, and all those Entry/Exit, and Visa stamps.
Plus it has other ID uses, and is a sought after document by many a crook, and often costs a pretty penny.0 -

The Passport renewal form from December last year:

I see your archive.org from december 2017 and raise you nationalarchives.gov.uk from august 2018
http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20180809142720/https://www.gov.uk/renew-adult-passport/renewIt must have only just changed then, because I got the extra added on at the end of June.
Yes, it has only just changed..0
