    That's the important thing.

About as long as it takes to phone or email you and say "It's a write-off", once they've made the decision.

How long will that be? <shrug>

That's part of the claim, whether it's a write-off or it gets repaired.

It's going to be written off, then.
(£3k for repairs plus contingency) versus (£3k value minus hire car for duration of repair, minus decent salvage value for a Cat N 7yo Zafira).
I've had the unofficial feedback from the garage where the car is stored but nothing official. I need to purchase a new car if that's the case and it's taking them a fair while to officially tell me (not even a phone call so far)!
  • Is the Tesco insurance yours, would have thought you were claiming off John Lewis insurance as their driver admitted fault.
When I was hit from behind the other driver admitted fault and their insurance called me that night to take my car to a garage and pick up a courtesy car, I only called my insurance for information only.
We're still in the stages of accessing blame by the sounds of it!

Their insurance have been in touch with mine so it's just a waiting game I'm guessing.

There's no curtesy vehicle if the car is a write off so I'm in limbo at the moment!

Im hoping the OP has the reg number to do this.
No theard a thing about them accepting blame.... he just ranted at me saying "why you over take".... I over take mate because you were parked at teh side of the road with your hazards on!

    Shish!!!!!

I read the original post that the John Lewis driver tried to blame the OP and not accepted fault himself.

Incidently, do you not get a curtesy car with Tesco Insurance?, I only ask as I got a quote from them and they said a courtesy car with standard with their policy.
No, by all accounts you don't if it's a right off or being accessed. I'm in limbo until this is sorted and can't afford to hire a car and potentially have to purchase a new car before the insurance pays out.

All I want is the official nod that its being written off. Is it really that hard???

The process is normally very quick:-

    1. Insurer instructs inspection engineer who visits vehicle prepares report within 48 hours

    2. If vehicle is Total Loss, insurer informs you and arranges for cheque to be forwarded to you, normally within 7 days of total loss

There are a few new and used car providers who specialize in finding replacement cars for total loss clients and helping them dispose of the vehicle (FairSquare is probably the largest).

    Best of luck
    Hello Carol....

in reply to your much appreciated answers:

"The process is normally very quick:-"
Not in this case I'm afraid - a week down.... the garage have unofficially been told that the car is a total loss, but they wwere shocked when I told them I hadn't been informed.

" 1. Insurer instructs inspection engineer who visits vehicle prepares report within 48 hours"

Engineers are just going by the report submitted by the garage so no site visit as such

"2. If vehicle is Total Loss, insurer informs you and arranges for cheque to be forwarded to you, normally within 7 days of total loss"

No confirmation officially from the insurance yet - even though the garage found out on Tuesday!

"There are a few new and used car providers who specialize in finding replacement cars for total loss clients and helping them dispose of the vehicle (FairSquare is probably the largest)."

They are takign the car and will pay me the net worth of it so will start looking in my local area.

Thanks for your responses... very helpful and have made me call the insurance again... guess what... still nothing!
    Best of luck

And this is why buying insurance on price alone is a bad idea.
