Hows long to confirm a vehicle is written off?
Hello All
Hope you're all enjoying happy motoring!
Unluckily for me, a nice (NOT) John Lewis delivery driver decided to drive his vehicle into the side of my car last Thursday morning (oh joy of joys! - that's the last time I'm shopping at John Lewis...)
He instantly said I was at fault (which I'm not and extremely glad it wasn't some poor cyclist otherwise there could have been a fatal incident).... anywhooo....
The garage have indicated a fee of £3,000 for repairs (for a wing and a bumper and a few bits underneath????? - but they are saying the ECU is cracked but although operative needs replacing). So my questions are.....
1, how long will it take TESCO Insurance to confirm my car is being written off (I'm disabled so desperately need a vehicle and can't afford to hire one etc or take the risk of purchasing one and then highliy unlikely but they end up agreeing to fix my old car???).
2, Should I have received a claim form to state my claim (they say they won't send anything out at this stage and just take my statement over the phone even though I have a number of photos of the incident) - they've been contacted by the other party's insurers (John Lewis - and you're not getting my business again)
3, I've checked with the garage and they're stating the repairs will cost £3,000. I checked on autotrader and my vauxhall zafira model B on a late 2011 (61) plate is coming up at £3,010 in value (probably due to high mileage at 94,000). So I'm guessing it's a write off unless they value it considerably higher?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance

I doubt a wing and a bumper would mean its a write off.
Has Tesco said anything to you yet about how to go forward with your claim? Have they sorted you with a replacement car if needed?Dont rock the boat

All depends on the pre accident value of the car and the repair cost.
It more than possible.0 -

That's the important thing.1, how long will it take TESCO Insurance to confirm my car is being written off
How long will that be? <shrug>(I'm disabled so desperately need a vehicle and can't afford to hire one3, I've checked with the garage and they're stating the repairs will cost £3,000. (£3k for repairs plus contingency) versus (£3k value minus hire car for duration of repair, minus decent salvage value for a Cat N 7yo Zafira).0 -

Looks like you misssed it.0 -
Is the Tesco insurance yours, would have thought you were claiming off John Lewis insurance as their driver admitted fault.
When I was hit from behind the other driver admitted fault and their insurance called me that night to take my car to a garage and pick up a courtesy car, I only called my insurance for information only.0 -

I read the original post that the John Lewis driver tried to blame the OP and not accepted fault himself.
Incidently, do you not get a curtesy car with Tesco Insurance?, I only ask as I got a quote from them and they said a courtesy car with standard with their policy.0 -
The process is normally very quick:-
1. Insurer instructs inspection engineer who visits vehicle prepares report within 48 hours
2. If vehicle is Total Loss, insurer informs you and arranges for cheque to be forwarded to you, normally within 7 days of total loss
There are a few new and used car providers who specialize in finding replacement cars for total loss clients and helping them dispose of the vehicle (FairSquare is probably the largest).
Best of luck0 -
Whoops sorry I misread that, thought he had admitted fault.0
