**It's a bit dusty in here, better open a window**
That's better
I know, I've been AWOL.
The walk....thank you for all the messages, it was fantastic and the views were superb and I hit my target :j those who follow me on Insta will have seen some of the photo's. I couldn't have asked for a better day.
My car went in for a service on Monday last week, is cost a LOT more than anticipated but I am glad that we had the money put aside for it...need to pay for DH's next month, the pots are going to be severely depleted.
My lovely friend's wife's funeral was last week, it was so beautiful and was a lovely send off for a special lady who will be missed
In other news...
DD has another camp this weekend, I swear that she has a better social life than me.
DS has his mock exams this week.
DH had a second interview and want him to come back for a third one....I am really hoping that he will get this job, as the current one is really hampering his MH.
I won't hit my LTW target by about 2 days, must try harder.
8 working days until pay day.
Still need to get DS's birthday stuff.0 -

Just a quick update on things.
DS's Isle of Wight camp came through yesterday and they needed immediate payment due to the lateness of notification, so £80 paid for that.
I need to move money about to cover the above.
The rest isn't looking too bad on the whole.0 -

I was told that the plan should be no more than 5-6 items, any more than it is overwhelming and any less and you have nothing to aim for. I have done this most of my life, sometimes it works and sometimes 'life' gets in the way and the plan doesn't happen.
I have thought for sometime about where I want to be financially and I have made my plan and finalised it.
•All annual bills paid in full each year
•All debt paid off – Aim 3 years - I have changed this from 5 years to 3 years as I really want the debt gone
•Money in savings
•Overpay mortgage
•Budget better
DS will be coming up to 20 and DD will be coming up to 17 by then and I don't want this to carry on, I'd like for us to help them financially if and when they need it.
My personal six year plan is a lot different but moving house was on it and that has happened, so that is going the right way.
Just putting this here, so I remember what I am aiming for.
Back later with a proper update, lots going around in my head that I think I need to put down on paper.0 -
Just caught up on your diary. Congrats on finishing your trek. I followed it online as my friend did the same Jurassic Coast trek last weekend too. I love coastal path walking and am doing the south west coastal path bit by bit starting with Cornwall so would have loved to do it but was away on holiday and then came down with bronchitis so good job I did not sign up for it. Maybe next year. Great cause too. Your dad would be proud. Lots of steep hills.
Your plans to clear the debts within three years sound sensible if your kids are planning university as that will inevitably cost you. You are below £14k now and are targeting around £5-6k per year on debt so that is definitely doable so long as you do not add to the debt. What is happening about the overdraft? You and your DH have been unlucky with jobs so don't beat yourself up too much and as you say you have moved house too so that is a massive expense.
One thing I have learned about budgeting over the years is first of all never anticipate a salary. Wait until it is in and then allocate it. If the grocery money is spent for one week do not borrow from the next except in dire emergency (milk, bread) and do not do top up shops. My primary rule was though do not send DH shopping as he would never check prices but he will stick to a list. Not sure if yours is the same. Also put savings away at the beginning of the month not save what is left.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I am hoping that the debts will be just about half by next year, if everything goes to plan.
The overdraft I am working on reducing although once it gets down to the £1K mark, I am going to do a money transfer whether DH likes it or not.
Job wise, DH is the main priority, although we are both getting paid, his need at the moment is greater than mine. The project I am on doesn't finish until at least Feb next year, so I do have some time yet.
Forgot about the house move lolenthusiasticsaver wrote: »One thing I have learned about budgeting over the years is first of all never anticipate a salary. Wait until it is in and then allocate it. I have to admit, I am slowly but surely learning to budget properly, it has only taken me nearly 10 years to get my head around it. I still have a long way to go though.0
