Correct however that's not how I read the OP in which it was asked if having 'handyman' as an occupation would cover delivering parcels.
If it is the case that the OP wants to use his car for parcel deliveries then I don't even think the standard business use classes will cover him, he'll probably need commercial insurance.0 -

commutekəˈmjuːt/
verb
gerund or present participle: commuting
1.
travel some distance between one's home and place of work on a regular basis.
"he commuted from Corby to Kentish Town"
synonyms:travel to and from work, travel to and fro, travel back and forth, come and go, shuttle "they commute on a stuffy overcrowded train"
But you are commuting on the days you walk to work, on the odd day you drive you are still commuting just by a different mode of transport.
Trying to argue that driving to your usual place of work isn't commuting is IMO not likely to hold much sway.
On a side note I have never found that adding these little bits of cover make much (if any) difference to the cost of insurance. Having some cover you don't end up needing isn't a problem so I don't get why anyone generally wouldn't add them on.0 -
If you are commuting, ie: travelling between your home and your place of work, even if it is only once or twice a year then you need to take out the appropriate cover - SDP and Commuting.
Believe it or not you may find that your cost of cover actually goes down!
With regards to using your vehicle to deliver parcels that is classified as business use. You may find, depending on the type of parcels you deliver and who you deliver them to, that Business Class 1 insurance will suffice. That is only if you are delivering parcels as part of your normal work; ie: if you are repairing a photocopier and need to deliver a new toner cartridge in order to make it work.
If you are just delivering, ie: Hermes, Yodel or any of the other home delivery services, then you will need correct courier cover as well as public liability and indemnity insurance.
Initial cost for courier insurance range depending on how many miles you do each year and whether or not you need Goods In Transit cover included or you will be purchasing it separately.
As a self employed technical courier for the last 35 years I would recommend getting your house in order as the consequences can be dire.
To fully insure myself each year for Goods In Transit, Public Liability and Indemnity Insurance, Courier Cover, SDP (so I can use the van for my own personal use as well) and Class 1 business use costs me around £1465.00 per year and it is all tax deductible so, in real terms, I end up paying around 80% of that amount as the remainder is written off against tax.
The other option would be to carry on as you are which would run the risk of a £200.00 fine and 6 points for not being correctly insured, Your vehicle seized at a cost of around £125.00, storage charges of around £15 per day and you can only get your vehicle back when you can show the correct insurance at the car pound. If you cannot do that within 14 days then your vehicle will be crushed.
You will also find that the insurance companies will not like you and, if you can find a company to insure you, you would be looking at a minimum load of 75% on your policy.
So a policy that originally cost you £400 for example will now cost you around £700.
Is it worth it? NO!0 -

The chances of you ringing up your current Insurer and Christmas and simply adding on use as a courier are vanishingly small. It's a very specialised and expensive cover that the standard market very rarely touch
Years ago I had a PAYE job and added delivering parcels to my insurance, it didn't cost much, but I do some gardening these days, a bit of painting, anything really.0 -

so you are a handyman first then a courier sometimes? you should cover yourself for all positions really.
By the way your daughter is commiting insurance fraud by saying she parks her car on your drive when she is clearly living somewhere else.0 -

Come on loosen up; the place she parks most consistently would be back home I guess. You can't get insured for parking round all your various friend's addresses can you? They ask where is the car usually kept overnight and sometimes they ask for daytime too; it is not possible to enter a long list of addresses.
Plus I've found that insurance is higher for parking on a driveway compared to 'in the road outside' so I select the latter now for both my cars as I can only get one on the drive anyway and which one it is varies.0 -

Your guess would be wrong as the OP says 'she is hardly ever here.'0 -
