Having a bit of a google on this & getting very wishy washy answers on the lines of roughly this, i think it's that.
It's the 140bhp engine if it matters and if i remember right the engine code is AZD.
I've been told it states in the owners manual but i'm quite sure the car was bought without one
I'm looking for someone who knows the capacity as i'll be doing a coolant change on one of these soon and i can't really do a 50:50 mix on a guesstimate.

When changing the coolant you get nowhere near all of it out so knowing the capacity doesn't really help if you're wanting to be sure you've filled it as you'll always put in less than it says the capacity is. If you buy a 5 litre can of undiluted OAT antifreeze which you mix to whatever ratio you want I can guarantee it'll be sufficient. Use an old 2 litre pop bottle to do the mixing in and then you can stick it in 2 litres at a time. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I was going to buy in some G13 which comes in 1.5 litre bottles. I'm hazarding a guess that the capacity will be more than 3 litres and possibly more than 6 litres so i'm also wanting to know how many bottles to buy in.
Although i'm not sure what OAT antifreeze is.0 -
As said, you won't get all the coolant out so capacity isn't that relevant. Why not buy enough for 6 litres and collect all the coolant that drains out and measure the volume, then go and buy more coolant if needed.0

It's much easier (although it's turning out not to be) to find out online what the capacity is (i'm still convinced that someone, somewhere must know) & then order in enough.
To be on the job & to find out you just don't have enough of whatever it is you need is a PITA & since this will be ordered online you can't just then 'go & buy' because there's waiting time. Who wants to have to trot off to get more of what they could've had beforehand? Not me. Who wants to buy more than they need? Also not me. Who wants to know exactly what they need? Me0 -
ring a dealer up then!0

G13 (and Plus) is meant to be longlife fill & forget. I've done plenty of timing belts/pumps/thermostats etc on our VW's and usually pour the coolant through a filter (fish tank type wool) and put it back in the car. The loss has been minimal so a 2:3 mix means a bottle of G13 lasts for ages if topping up. Think I bought four a few years ago and three are still unopened.Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience? Why? So you can argue with them?0

Just buy a gallon of pre-mixed or 3 litres of neat and mix it 50/50 with distilled water, pull the bottom hose and drop the old antifreeze out of the radiator into a bucket, then replace and fill it up. (if you have 3 separate litre bottles, pour one in neat, fill it with distilled water and pour that in, then halve the next bottle into this one and fill both with distilled etc...)
If the gallon isn't enough, use some of what came out, save a litre to top it back up when you run it and get rid of the air, then dispose of the old stuff responsibly, bear in mind it is sweet tasting and poisonous, so don't leave it where dogs & hedgehogs could drink it, and wash away any spilled puddles.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Out of curiosity what's the deal with distilled water? Any particular reason why mixing it with tap water is no good?twhitehousescat wrote: »ring a dealer up then!
Rewind a few years and i did just that, or at least asked them a similar question. Turns out VW don't really like to give you answers unless you're parting with money.0 -

What a marvellous idea.

ok , go into dealers and ask to BUY antifreeze , ask what mix they suggest and ask them to ask workshop how much to sell you
when they bring it to counter , walk out0 -

So do what I said and go buy a 5 litre bottle of the stuff then not only do you have plenty to do the change but you'll also have some left over so you don't have the faff of having to go get some more if you need to top up your car or any others in the household. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
