have you simply tried doing the change of ownership online, follow it thru , as if you were the seller , adding your details later on as the new owner , put in the date that it was sold/bought

I have but it didn’t recognise the number. So I just sent the v62 form off.When they send it back should I just pay the £25 and do it that way then send it to the insurance company when I eventually receive it

I'd suggest that you speak to your insurer to ask for their advice on how to handle things.
