Compensation for roadworks

Is it possible as a private motorist to claim compensation for roadworks? The current ones heading into Manchester have meant that both my wife and I need to leave an hour earlier. The knock on effect is that we now have to use a breakfast club for our daughter which will cost us an extra £200 a month. There is no public transport alternative or flexible working and so we are absolutely stuck. Is there any means to appeal to the council as this is going to cost a fortune.

Not a chance. If we as hauliers couldn't get any for the £1000s per day extra in fuel and wages it costs the company I work for on night runs around the UK you've got no chance.
And after 25 years of driving that route I'm surprised you noticed any difference because the traffic was moving just as slowly as it was before they started. They're also mostly now finished so when they're completely done and the traffic is flowing better will you be sending some money to the council for the time and fuel you save? No? Quelle surprise. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

As above quote by a certain famous tennis player.0 -
How long before people start suing the government for falling down the stairs in their own house?! I try not to make negative comments on threads, but seriously this got to be a wind up, surely?0

No-one is forcing you to drive that road at that time.
Roadworks suck, but we need them or you'd be complaining about the state of the roads.
I'm in a similar boat; my usual route in is blocked and the alternative is about an hour longer.0 -

On a similar note, it rains a lot more in Scotland than it does in England - I am sure that must be discrimination. Can I sue? I have to use more electricity drying clothes
Who should I send my claim too?0 -
You get free prescriptions! It costs me £104 a year, I want compensation!I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
