Complete and utter tripe just more nonsense im in the same boat as the OP with £17k of debt 18 months in all defaulted, as yet no CCJs emails and calls and the odd letter but nothing to taxing.

So I own Piggy bank £50 and have had not contact are they going to take court action and enforce a CCJ? I very much doubt it.

Ride the storm OP and see how it goes mate if they do decide to take action you will have enough notice to prevent attachment of earnings ETC or as somebody else suggested go down the DRO route obviously with some crafty accounting.......

    Well said:money:

As !!! says "18 months is nothing. They can apply for a CCJ right up to the day of the 6 year default anniversary." . Most likely your debt is with the original creditors, who may employ a debt collector at some point, and will probably sell it on. If it is, you'll get a lot more letters, and probably end up with a CCJ - don't be surprised if the debt is then over £20K after recovery costs, interest, legal costs and fees are all added.

Well, do come back when they serve the documents, it's not a £50 debt though is it - I can see them not trying too hard to pursue that if it was.

Telling someone to ride it out is a stupid suggestion as well as using “crafty accounting” to hide your available funds
I agree, it's easy to tell people to ignore letters, and they won't be there when eventually it catches up with them. The further it goes down the route the less options you have. Once past CCJ, these companies are less forgiving, because they know they can enforce it.
  • All I can say is regarding CCJ, is that my brother ended up in approximately 35k worth of debt, that was 7 years ago, he never had one CCJ or knock at his door.

Im not saying ignoring this is right to do, but as people are sharing opinions, I will share an experience for you I know to be fact.

Yes I am in full time employment with a family and run a car etc and I am up to date with all my bills that go with running a family house but I am starting to struggle with paying these credit cards

In regards to the pre-pay meters may not be your house but the utility companies can still come and fit a pre-payment meter and then you'll be shafted, stuck on the most expensive gas and electric there is.

And then there's the other thing you've not thought about. You're a family therefore what you do has an impact on your other half as well......

  • Or your partner takes over the utilities so no pre payment meter needed (assuming you have a partner and credit is okay).
  • This thread is comedy gold :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  • In all seriousness and answering the OP ONLY, there are always consequences for not paying what is owed BUT if you do your homework, find out how those potential consequences will affect your standard of living (and of course your family) sort of do a pros and cons exercise, then you will KNOW whether to pay, offer a reduced payment or not pay at all.

Personally (and only hypothetically) if I decided to trash my credit worthiness and chose not to make any more payments to anyone (and lets face it we all get tired of paying every month) I wouldn't be doing it for 4k!!!!! I'd max out all my cards (approx150k) then do it, but that's just me.
  • What would you do if someone borrowed £10 from you and told you to eff off when you asked for it back? Perhaps not a fair comparison because 'they' don't need the money as much as you probably do - but, what about the principle?
Yes I understand in principle what I am thinking is wrong but if this is the worst thing I do in my life am I really that bad a person?

You're probably a 'thoroughly bloody nice bloke' but those of us who pull our own weight in the world might be a bit miffed about having to subsidise your spending because all losses ultimately come out of everyone else's pockets - and that includes people genuinely struggling with debt. That said, you aren't really struggling with your debt, you're just waiting for the rest of us to pay it for you.

Pop your banking details down on your next post and I'll do an online transfer for my portion straight away - £4K be enough for you?

And I'm sure the partner would be fine with that, and not cause alarm bells to ring. "Hi Darling, you know those card companies that have been chasing me, well I've thought of a cunning plan - I just need to transfer all the bills, like the gas and leccy, into your name ...."
