Motorola Rizr Z8 - Advice

I am looking to purchase a Z8 for a Christmas / Birthday present (7th Jan). The trouble is this phone seems to be a contract only phone with most sites and those that sell it sim free it is going for over £300 (eg ebuyer). I did not really want another contract phone as I already have two in the household with them both not due up until March 2008. However dial a phone have got an offer on a 12month z8 contract that works out at £27.71 per month (after cash back) on the o2 400 price plan (this is a better price plan than either of my existing providers). Also there is £60 cashback through quidco.

Does anyone think this is going to get any cheaper between now and Christmas or even just after Christmas? Also is there any benefit in me contacting my existing contract providers (Vodafone and Virgin) and bartering with them even though I am still in contract?

Finally if I do go for a o2 contract I would need to cancel one of our remaining two contracts. Anyone got any advice about getting the best deal out of either vodafone or virgin in this situation?

Never thought buying a phone could be so confusing! All advice greatly appreciated.

Depending on how much you spend and how far you are into your contract then you may be able to get one from your network HOWEVER it would be viewed as an upgrade and would extend your contract.

The problem with the Z8 is that many networks weren't impressed with it or had software issues with it and didn't accept it into their ranges upon launch. If the software improves and the networks reassess it then it may become more widely available on PAYG but I doubt it as there will mostly likely be a new model in 6 months or so.

    Hi Cmorgan,

You can try to contact you network provider and see if their is anything that they can do for you. With Vodafone if you call 08700 700191 (or 191 from your handset) and select the option to upgrade you will be put through to the team and can review your account and see if it is possible to offer you anything :).
