Sky Refusing To Cancel Internet

Does anybody have any experience of Sky not cancelling and then charging for another month plus a 'Late Payment Fee'? I only had Internet with them and cancelled the connection 2 weeks ago.
I have been out of contract and able to cancel at any time for half a year. I cancelled in time for 4th September and they confirmed on the phone and via email that it was due to be cancelled on 4th September. I've now got a fee for 5th September for another month plus a £10 fee for not paying and cancelling Direct Debit.
I haven't used the Internet since because I have a communal connection in my building. I am assuming it is still active and they've failed to disconnect it.
I also have a recording of the phone call promising to cancel by 4th September.
Does anybody know where I stand with this. If I phone them up this will cost me time and money.

Um, if you had a communal internet connection why were you paying Sky in the first place for internet?
And your internet (and line rental) would have been paid monthly in advance and you would have been on a 30 day rolling contract which is basically you want to end it you give 30 days. Not two weeks.0 -
You pay in advance for BB/LR so they would have taken a full month and then refunded the remainder from the actual turn off date to the end of the paid month. You should never have cancelled the DD. You'll have to phone them whether you want to or not.0

Bad connection on the communal. I've added a repeater and I'm using that now and getting 10 times the speed for free, which I should have done when the 12 months was up but I never considered a repeater at the time and just didn't get round to thinking about it.
Thanks for the freephone. Just been online chat for an hour that I won't get back getting pushed from pillar to post and then disconnected. They've admitted that I should be charged anything. They've put that in writing saying the contract should have ended on 4th and then they've just ignored their own cancellation and just carried on as normal trying to take money.
I did pay in advance when I took a fixed contract. That turned into a rolling contract. Its in writing from them that the contract is over, so they have no justification for trying to take any more money.
Incidentally, if its a 30 day cancellation, then they couldn't agree to cancel it on the 4th and cut off my connection, an advanced connection that has been paid for, until another month later. My cut off date is written as 4th September.
"Your Sky Talk and Sky Broadband will be cancelled on 04/09/2018."0
