Charter Savings Bank

Has anyone ever used Charter Savings Bank? I am considering transferring some funds (£56,000) into their 95 Day Notice Saver account which pays 1.75% interest. It is currently in an easy access Post Office account which pays just 1.29%. I was hoping there would be some much better options since the Bank of England increased the base rate again for the 2nd time in 12 months. Unfortunately nothing much appears to have changed. Anyone ever used the Charter Savings Bank? They are covered by the FSCS, so does this mean my money will be secure no matter what? I am a little out of my comfort zone as I have only ever used the big high street banks, and always felt that my money was secure there. I don't really want to lock the funds away for 12 months in case the banks increase their rates in the near future. Furthermore, most of the 12 month fixed rate accounts are still only around the 2% mark, and I feel that 1.75% is pretty decent for a 95 day notice saver.

  • I've used Charter Savings bank for 3 years or so.
    I can definitely recommend them.

Their website is easy to use and the rates are usually one of the highest.
They seem to compete with Secure Trust bank on interest rates but I prefer CSB as they pay monthly interest.

Their call centre is good too.
The only small quibble us they take a few days to reply to emails but aside from that, a great service.
  • I have had a series of account with CSB continuously starting June 2015. Currently have a 95 day notice cash ISA account, 2 X 1 year fixed rate bonds, 1 X 2 year fixed rate bond and an Easy Access (Issue 8) account. Some of these may not currently be available. I have found CSB very efficient, no problems so far.

Thanks for your advice. You can't go wrong with a 95 day notice saver if it is paying 1.75%. It's only approx 3 months to wait if you desperately need access to your cash.

I have used them. Not impressed that they didn’t tell me when they introduced savings accounts with better rates and shorter notice periods.

I now have to wait 6 months to transfer my money to a better account.

If you open an account, regularly check their web site for new rates.
