Do you pay postage to deposit a cheque at the Postoffice Counter (Santander)?

  • Hi Blackbeard

Yes a relative has HSBC's app and tells me this is faster and doesn't require a visit in branch so like you say end of the next banking day!

I'll give Santander a few months and then if not I'll jump ship!

    Thanks

I'm HSBC and it was brilliant with a personal cheque. Paid in 4pm Friday and well before 9am Monday the funds were there.

However a larger sized business cheque was a nightmare to image, then it wouldn't even accept the deposit.

HSBC tell me this is a known problem with larger sized cheques and they are working on it.
  • Hi KxMX

That is very fast! I know with the new imaging service at Santander they tell me it has taken a day or two off the clearing cycle, but 1 working day is fantastic!

Thanks for letting me know about larger cheques. I had cheques drawn from a building society savings account and I'll assuming they won't fit properly either as they are the size of a business cheque.

The cheque I started the thread about is a personal cheque though. I'll see about the bank accounts - it might be worth moving for.

    Thank you

At my bank I use the mobile app, and the money is there at the end of the following banking day!

I know it's great isn't it. Provided the cheque is for less than £500 though.

Failing that as others have mentioned post offices accept bank deposits, you just need to check with your own bank if you need any further info eg paying in book.
  • Thank you for everyones help and advice.

    Just for any future readers:

I was able to successfully deposit my cheque at the PO counter using the paying in slip and Clearing Centre Bootle Envelope and depite the envelope saying Stamp Needed no postage was required.

    Thank you
