I do need some data, as being retired we travel a lot, we have a touring caravan, so like to have most data to hand, but the document type data, I scan everything in these days and shred so 1, it gets rid of a load of paper and 2 i have everything with me whereever I am, I am more than happy to have on a removeable option as then if the laptop walks, personal details do not! 7 year old laptop...
    Are they SATA3.0?

If I am in your position, i won't spend £100 on samsung.
I would just get the cheapest SSD available for the size you want.

An installation of Windows 10 plus a good selection of what I would call the usual programs should not take up more than 50-60 gigabytes so a 128 gigabyte SSD would be fine

make sure the thickness of the SSD is supported by your laptop

If you buy a bigger SSD for example 512 then my advice would be to put windows on 128 and leave the rest for data i.e. have a c drive and a d drive

In any case depending on the amount of data you have to store (ie as opposed to the operating system) use an external HDD as many people have suggested on here

Useful post. I had a look. £75.50 including delivery. Of course you should choose to pay in Euros or state that your card is denominated in Euros if you have a no-fee card.
So that's the one the OP should obtain, if he wants as much as 500 GB.
There is the option to change the website to English, so no issue with language.

I have my main drive as a SSD, my second drive is a hybrid and my third drive is a big magnetic drive.
hybrids are better than pure magnetic drives ,but they aren't anywhere near as good as SSDs.
For a laptop I would definitely go SSD
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

In addition, normal drives are basically disks spinning at thousands of RPM with a tiny head just a fraction of a millimeter from their surface. SSD don't have moving parts, this makes them much more robust and reliable when used in laptops.

I spotted the Amazon.de wondered if uk may follow suit, I do have a no-fee card so that is no issue. Makes the 500g pence dearer than the 250g, and delivery is only under 5€.
