We live in Wales , my DD has been diagnosed with anxiety and depression and is getting help for this now. She has to leave her Uni course and is hoping to go back next year to finish the course once she is better. In the meanwhile what benefit can she apply for . We have Universal credit here but she isn't well enough to work If she were she would be in Uni. The GP is fully on board and would sign her a sick note . She is not at all well but hopes to be well enough to resume her course in a years time. So l really don't know where to go from here. Anyone have any advice please ? Thank you in advance she is 24.

If she's officially suspended on health grounds it'll be UC I think and she should be treated as though she's not a student (for benefit purposes) whilst suspended0

Possibilities -
UC - https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/claiming/getting-universal-credit-if-youre-sick-or-disabled/
And
PIP - https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/
Will she be living at home with you?Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0 -
Yes Alice she will be, she is here with us now. Thank you both for your help and replies. I am concerned if she goes on UC they will pressure her into applying for jobs and make her attend meetings in the job centre. She really needs peace and calm to get better not harrassing by the job centre staff. I may have to just forget benefits for her she really isnt up to the Spanish inquisition. My other DD applied for UC when she left Uni and they were horrible to her .xXx-Sukysue-xXx0

UC is for people on a low income regardless of whether they are looking for work, too ill to work or looking after someone will a long term illness or disability.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -

Not if she's as ill as she sounds. She'd be applying as unfit to work (with a fit note from GP) and so would need to complete a work capability assessment0 -
If she will be suspending the course for a year she will presumably also have to inform Student Loans about the situation. If she continues to get the student loan it will affect UC.0

I agree, if she is unfit to work then she will go through the same sort of process as somebody previously applying for ESA.
A PP suggested applying for PIP but I think that the OP's daughter may not meet the requirements as you need to have had the health issue for at least 3 months and it needs to be likely to continue for 9 months unless the illness is terminal.

What do you need to do?
If you’re going to withdraw from your course then you must contact and advise:
your university or college – so they can notify us of your correct withdrawal date (your last date of attendance); and
us – so we can minimise the amount of overpayment you may need to repay.
If you have a grant or loan overpayment we’ll contact you and tell you what you need to do.0 -
Thank you all so much it has given me the correct information to go forward for her. I am afraid because she is so depressed she just isn't up to finding this out for herself. No motivation at all , not bathing or washing or even doing her hair it is very worrying . Thank you all so much .xXx-Sukysue-xXx0

Lack of personal care like you mentioned is very typical of depression.
She will probably not want to go but the best thing that you can do for your daughter is get her to see a doctor.
It may be that anti-depressants are advised to get her through this depression.0
