Car Finance using a partners drivers licence when holding a provisional

Hi, not sure if anyone can help me here..

I've been in the process of getting car finance this past few days.. I am only a provisional licence holder so when I applied for the finance it was declined because I don't hold a full license.. the salesman at the garage explained that there is a way I could try that would mean my partner would have to provide her driving licence(full license) after doing trying that the salesman explained over the phone that I had been accepted but he would need my partners past address and work names and addresses but has told me when I collect the car he would also need her bank details and has told me that she will not be on the policy it's just my name on it.. after telling my partner, we cannot understand why they need it as she will not pay for it or be a gatuntor or anything so why do they need it?

Any information on doing it this way would be appreciated.. the garage has colsed for the day now so cannot ring him and ask him.. is this a legit way of doing it or is he trying to sneak her onto the policy so that I will be accepted? I'm just not sure..

    Seriously?

You are trying to finance a car.
You have, presumably, told them that you will be the main user of this car.
They have said "no", because you do not have a driving licence.
So you have said "Oh, OK, then let's do it in my OH's name."

Now you're wondering why they want to know whether your OH can afford this car that she's going to be driving...?

Just pass your flippin' test, and do it properly.

You clearly didn't read the full thing.. I never once said do it in her name.. I'm nearly passed, I've been a biker on the roads for 3years and have decided to do my car license I've put in for my practical and I'm doing it in the next week, the car I have put in for is ideal for what I want.. and the closest other one is 50miles away from where I live, so would save me traveling getting this one.. I was going to wait but when I viewed it there was mutiple other people also interested.. like I've already said above the salesman has clearly told me that she will not be on the policy at all.. it's just something to basically say that there is someone living at my address who can drive it or sit in with me on learners insurance.. so if she's not going to be on the policy why do they need her bank details? Surely seeing her driver's license and knowing who she is should be enough?.. in the future keep your comments to yourself if you don't know the reasoning behind something or if you do not know what you are talking about.. it's also a good idea to read the full thing before commenting.. thanks bud

I want to know if anyone else has ever heard of or had any experience doing it this way? My other half is willing to give her bank details over but it's not going to be her car at the end of the day and is curious as to why her bank details are needed if she's not going to be a part of the policy? She's not even going to be insured on it and the salesman knows that.. if everyone's going to be arrogant and judgmental then this post may as well just be closed because it's not helping anyone

You say you are applying for finance but then talk about a policy. What policy? Car finance is a credit agreement, not a policy.

Are you talking about the insurance policy?

Not many companies will give credit finance to a provisional licence holder without a joint hirer who holds a full licence.
I think you need to clarify with the garage what exactly they are arranging as it sounds like they are asking for your partner's details to include her in the finance agreement.

I mean the credit agreement not policy sorry my bad, never had any vehicle finance before so didn't know that's what it was called.. the salesman has assured me several times that my partner is not going to be on the agreement.. that's why it's so strange that the finance company have asked the salesman for bank account details of her, I'm just gonna wait and have a good read through the agreement before handing any of her account details over because like I've said he's made it clear that the finance will be mine and not hers in any way.. I think he's trying to make me for a fool and include her on the agreement without saying..

Put down a deposit on it and figure out the finance once you've got a full license next week.
Or take out a personal loan for the car. Or get a cheaper car.

Though it's madness to get a car before you pass; you may think it'll be a sure thing but anything can happen.

To answer your 3 underlined points...
    1. Because the salesman isn't telling you something you need to know.
    2. Read everything carefully before you sign anything. Don't just trust what the salesman is telling you.
    3. It's highly likely.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
