  • Thanks.....so what should I expect if all is normal & just needs oil change/&/or Lucas additive....or am I being thick???!
  • Tried a tip fro MSE found on Google....3rd gear....flat road....no hills/valleys....pull away. If stalls straight away, clutch fine , not slipping. If

Stutters & tries to move forward/drive...probably clutch slipping.

I did it on a very slight downhill road and promptly stalled within 3-5 metres. Tried 3 times.... Same result. So probably clutch OK. Any thoughts kind people???

My thoughts are "what did the mechanic say?"

    From your post earlier...

let's see what mechanic , who has been competitive and very good/trustworthy so far....has to say.

Very hard to diagnose a fault on an internet forum thread with limited information....

Did you try what i suggested in Post #11?
  • Hi! Sorry for the delay, been out. As mentioned in earlier post, mechanic said 'seems OK....but still think clutch is on it's way' & that was it....so no info there!! Lol!

If it's a Fiesta we are talking about then I'm very confident it's going to be the gear linkage that's the issue here. The gear shift arm's nylon bushes get dry/expand due to heat which causes them to tighten up.

We had a similar problem on a family member's car and our mechanic was adamant it was the clutch but I insisted it was the linkage. He was shocked when it turned out he was wrong...

Difficulty engaging gears is possibly a dragging clutch, not a slipping one.
  • Hi guys....thanks SO MUCH for the advice!

Whichever option, gear linkage or clutch dragging.....new clutch/gear box & an expensive job or a cheaper fix?

I know via the web a definitive diagnosis is high on impossible but any rough ideas?

I'd (have someone) look at the linkage first. See if it needs greased / freed up / replaced.

I'd then do the gearbox oil. No bad thing to do anyway from a maintenance perspective.

If that didnt work i'd then do the clutch.
